What I have here (from the repos) is Ardour3-3.5.74-2.fc20 from
updates-testing. I get same results as with 3.5.14-1.fc20 ... I suspect
I'm missing something.

Make sure to add your user to the jackuser group, log out and log back in:
e.g
su -c 'usermod -a G jackuser userid'
Where userid is your user ID.
