usb mount point control
by jack craig
Hi Fedora Folks,
over the weekend, i decided to upgrade my fc10 to fc11. it wasnt too painful, it only broke my email and mplayer.
however, as i used my sd card to shuttle files to/from my moblin netbook, i had a /etc/fstab entry of the form, ...
/dev/sdd1 /media/disk ext3 defaults 0 0
and this bought me the assurance that upon mount, /media/disk/.. is where i'd find my sd card files.
now with fc11, this same entry fails to do the job, i get a system generated mount point of the form, ...
/dev/sdd1 on /media/c35d465d-bf2b-4c9a-9fd4-5a6e02d8d219 type ext2 (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=devkit)
and if i add my fstab entry, i get an error about only root can mount /dev/sdd1 on /media/disk.
could someone point me to how to override this behaviour?
tia, jackc...

Firefox 3.5RC3 - Broken for me
by John Wendel
Running updated Fedora 11, downloaded FF3.5RC3 and installed in my home
directory to test. Crashed on almost every web page. Removed it, but my
bookmarks were clobbered when I restarted FF3.5B4.
Working/not working for anyone else?

Problems with network install on Fedora 11
by Bruno Rebeschini
Hi,
I have 2 computers: one desktop (Dell Optiplex GX270) with Fedora 11
installed and one laptop (Toshiba Satellite 2180CDT: AMDK6-2 (i586), 192 MB
RAM, 4GB HDD) on which I would like to install Fedora 11.
As the laptop cannot used DVDs, I attempted to perform an installation
through the network via HTTP in different ways but failed each time:
...to boot the laptop, I used:
- the boot.iso image available in the /images directory of the DVD burned
on a CD
- vmlinuz and initrd.img available on the boot.iso image, copied to the
laptop's hard disk with GRUB reconfigured
...I referred to method=http://... with:
- the DVD mounted on my desktop and made available with Apache
- content of the DVD copied on my desktop and made available with Apache
- a mirror available on the net
...every time, the download starts and retrieves the install.img image on
the network and then shows the error message "Unable to retrieve the install
image".
I start to wonder if there's something wrong with the boot.iso image. Can
someone please help and put me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Bruno

Help: F11 anaconda doesn't see my hard drives
by Sam Varshavchik
Anaconda is barfing when I try to upgrade my existing F10. The machine has
an IDE drive that contains a single Windows partitions, and two SCSI drives,
hanging off an Adaptec 29320 HBA, with F10 on both drives in a RAID-1
configuration.
When Anaconda gets to the "checking storage" phase, it spins for a while,
then proceeds immediately to do a new install.
The partitioning screen has only /dev/sda listed, which is the existing
Windows partition. /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc, the two SCSI drives, are not
shown. HOWEVER:
When I flip over to ALT-F2, "fdisk /dev/sdb" and "fdisk /dev/sdc" read the
partition table of the two SCSI drives. So, what I have is:
1) The kernel sees the SCSI drives
2) On some other ALT-F screen I see all the soothing messages from the md
subsystem concerning registering various md personalities.
However,
3) mdadm isn't running
4) Anaconda sees neither the softraid partitions, nor the actual underlying
/dev/sd? devices at all.
WTF?
This is a 64 bit machine. I have another machine 32 bit machine with no
IDE drives, two SCSI drives connected to an AIC-7902B, also in a RAID-1
configuration, and I had no problems whatsoever upgrading that one to F11.

Live CD fails to boot
by potat0
I have downloaded and burned two different versions of Fedora 11 but both copies failed to boot giving text messages about bad sectors, etc. The two versions were i686 and the x86-64. I assume that either I got two bad copies or the software or (Magiciso) incurred errors both times even though no such errors were displayed. I do not recall having a single previous error using Magiciso. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I need to have it spelled out for me how to use Checksum. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

This machine acts as a Subversion server. I use the mailer.py hook to
send emails with commit messages. After a reboot I'm getting the
following error when I commit...
Warning: post-commit hook failed (exit code 1) with output:

I found the following...

But I don't understand why the updates would cause this problem to occur.
Any suggestions?

Howto: Compiz on Fedora
by Valent Turkovic
I updated Fedora wiki pages with instructions on how to install Compiz
on Fedora 10 and 11:
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/RenderingProject/compiz
Please use this and give back some feedback, or even better go to wiki
page and edit it to make it better.
ps. there is also a great Compiz WIki, please consider adding your
expertise which graphics cards work and which don't to this page. I
have some experence with Intel 945, 946 and 915 so I added that info
on that Wiki page: http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/Hardware/
Cheers!
