Can it read ext4 formatted disks?
If so, then I can proceed to check it out, otherwise it is useless for Fedora 11 users that may want to view their files in Window$

[OT] See USB pen drive with linux FS on Windows
by Aldo Foot
If you put a USB pen drive with its default FAT filesystem in Fedora you're
presented with an option to open the pen drive in a file browser.
how about the other way around?
does anyone know of a utility that can be installed in a Windows system
that autoloads a pen drive formated with a linux filesystem?

F10 -> F11 X server problem with /dev/fb0
by Peter J. Stieber
I just upgraded an x86_64 Fedora 10 system to Fedora 11. Now when I run
startx I get the following complaint.
(EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory
Then the screen output says...
Fatal server error:
Detected GPU lockup
My Fedora 10 system was using the Fedora Xvfb package to perform offline
processing. I stopped that server, but I'm still getting the error.
$ lspci
...
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV44
[GeForce 6200 LE] (rev a1)
...
I'm wondering how to go about fixing this. I know this probably isn't
enough to "go on", but just ask, and I'll provide more information.

git am and tabs in the commit messages
by Christoph Höger
Hi,
I use to write commit messages in the following format:
short name
* point 1
* point 2
when I git format-patch and git am a change like that I get:
short name
* point 1
* point 2
Why that? Are tabs unsupported?

EEEPC FC11 install
by Andrew Cocker
Hi
I have had FC10 working surprisingly well as a web server for months on an
Asus EeePC (Intel Atom bases mini PC) but an upgrade to FC11 failed so I
have had to restart from scratch. The EeePC has no optical drive and I have
tried using both a 4GB USB key and USB hard drive. I tried both
livecd-tools and Unetbootin to create a bootable USB drive. In every
attempt anaconda runs but after I get through the partitioning stage it
creates a file system and then fails with an error message that it cannot
mount the ISO source, usually /dev/sdb1.
Am I doing something dumb, is there a bug? Should I try reinstalling FC10
and upgrading to FC11 instead?
All advice gratefully received.

Fedora-11 rant
by Timothy Murphy
In my experience so far, Fedora-11 is easily the worst,
or at least the most difficult to install, of all Fedoras.
Admittedly I have only tried installing it on one machine,
a Thinkpad T23 with 1GB RAM.
But I have tried installing in 6 ways, and all have failed.
In 4 of the 6 cases, the problem seems to lie in the video driver.
The video card in this machine is an S3 SuperSavage IX/C SDR card.
The main symptom is that the system runs impossibly slowly,
with keyboard input taking up to a minute to take effect.
I should say that Fedora-10 runs perfectly on this machine,
as does Windows XP.
Also, when I access the machine remotely (through ssh)
it seems to be running normally.
My two other failures were with NFS installation
(as far as I could see, the directory could not be mounted)
and local install.
On the later, I thought that it was sufficient
for the DVD ISO file to be present on a local partition.
But it seems that local installation
now requires the ISO file to be dis-assembled?
I guess the two questions I would be grateful for an answer to are:
1. Could I use the video driver from F-10 ?
2. Can one substitute a more basic driver for the one chosen
during the installation?

smb (samba) mount resolved.
by Gary Artim
Just an fyi to the list,
problem: couldn't mount smb on a fc11 desktop to a fc10 smb server.
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=506574
(has more details)
I did the following to test/patch the problem: (note that the patch
may be included in the 2.6.31 kernel)
followed howto on patching kernel, worked like a charm:
http://fedoraproject.org/w/index.php?title=Building_a_custom_kernel&print...

A new problem with preupgrade - CORRECTION
by Aaron Konstam
AFTER SENDING THE MESSAGE BELOW i SAW THAT THE ERROR MESSAGE LIST IS
SLIGHTLY IN ERROR. I HAVE REPLACED IT WITH THE CORRECTED ERROR LIST.
SORRY FOR THE CONFUSION
After installing updates In a fresh f10 system I no longer can run
preupgrade. I first get the output on the screen below:
[root@localhost yum.repos.d]# preupgrade
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/yum/__init__.py:181: UserWarning: Use .preconf instead of passing args to _getConfig
warnings.warn('Use .preconf instead of passing args to _getConfig')
Loaded plugins: blacklist, refresh-packagekit, whiteout
Repository 'updates' is missing name in configuration, using id
Then over the beginning update screen I get an error window that says:
Failed to get release information
This could be caused by a missing
network connection or a bad mirror.
Are the mirrors broken? I do have a network connection. What might be
wrong and how do I fix it?
