Hi Gilboa,
funny things are happening somtimes.... :-))
as i tried now to write down the kernel-panic messages i tried
again to reboot to SMP and..... it worked (this time without
recreating the initrd after the last kernel-update).
so i think there must be some changes in actual kernel (2.6.15-1.1831_FC4smp)
which solved my problems!!!
thanks for your help,

Writing to fstab
by Anne Wilson
Something strange is happening in my attempts to write to fstab. I have
added, for instance,
LABEL=/OldData
/dev/hdb9 /mnt/data ext3 users 1 2
then umounted the manual mount of /mnt/data and run
[root@david ~]# mount -a
mount: mount point does not exist
However, the mount occurs and /mnt/data is readable in konqueror.
Clearly there is some sort of problem, but what?

Cannot use fourth IDE HDD with FC3 ?
by Amrit Angsusingh
I used pentium 4 mechine with 256 Mb ram and fedora core 3 for web server
and four IDE HDDs [160 Gbx4] on both primary ans secondary IDE. The bios
also detected all 4 HDD but after starting FC3 the system mount secondary
slave HDD /dev/hdd1 as /mnt/idedisk1
/dev/hda1 / ext3 defaults 1 1
none /dev/pts devpts gid=5,mode=620 0 0
none /dev/shm tmpfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hdc1 /mec ext3 defaults 1 2
none /proc proc defaults 0 0
none /sys sysfs defaults 0 0
/dev/hdb1 /var ext3 defaults 1 2
/dev/hda2 swap swap defaults 0 0
/dev/hdd1 /mnt/idedisk1 auto amconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0
which appeared to be the read only device. I cannot umount this device and
mount it to /dev/hdd1 ext3 . I would like to use this HDD to store the
nackup data. Does any one tell me how to do this?

Hi all,
Where can I find the file libgnomeui-2.0.pc ?
When I try to install multisync I receive :

Perhaps you should add the directory containing `libgnomeui-2.0.pc'
to the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable
No package 'libgnomeui-2.0' found

There isn't a library libgnomeui-2.0.pc

Hi John,
What happens if you try to add the daemon via the chkconfig process ?
If the script is located in /etc/rc.d/init.d
You can use
chkconfig --add mydaemon
chkconfig --level 2 5 mydaemon on
(caveat: check this syntax...I'm not near an RH/fedora box)
This may produce more instructive errors than a hung GUI.

While several views have been expressed on the moral/ethical nature of
CentOS being a branding-removed RedHat rebuild, I think one of the key
questions that has been overlooked is "How does RedHat benefit from
CentOS (or any other rebuild)?"
I think Mikkel's comment is right on.
The other aspect of this that has not been mentioned is because of
CentOS, more people are helping RedHat by finding & fixing bugs.
>From my own experience, I find it easier to work with the folks maintaining
CentOS-- they seem to care more about finding and fixing problems than
shuffling Bugzilla tickets. When a fix is found for a CentOS problem,
most of the time, it also applies to RedHat and is sent to them for
incorporation into their product. The community support for CentOS
directly benefits RedHat by off-loading some of the
developer/bugfix workload.
Just my $0.02.

I specifically have a MAXTOR Ultra-Series DiamondMax, 200GB,
8MB buffer, 7200 RPM hard drive that Staples.com promo sold
this week for < $40.00. The kit provides "MaxBlast v4.0"
software for formatting and partitioning of these drives and
yes, they install the ontrack stuff on the drive but you can
opt not to allow it to be installed but I did not choose that
option so maybe that is why Ghost gets confused. I will try
that again and let you know if this was/is the problem.
>Have you looked to see if a BIOS upgrade is available for the

Apparently, I have the latest BIOS version installed and it
supports LBA (32) but I dont have an ATA 133 IDE chip so
therein lies the problem with the Motherboard. There is
also no guarantee that if I buy the Maxtor ATA 133 card
that the BIOS would even allow this drive to be bootable
off the card. That is is why it is not an option for me
as I tried this once and I returned 5 different ATA 133
cards due to the boot issue so I did not want to take this
route again.
Thanks for responding!
