a small problem with mailman
by Scott Berry
Hello gang,
I have a bit of a problem with mailman here. When I go to use "/usr/lib/mailman/bin/update" and after setting everything the way that the mm_cfg.py says I get this trace back error:
[root@pilotalk ~]# /usr/lib/mailman/bin/update Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/lib/mailman/bin/update", line 49, in <module>
from Mailman import mm_cfg
File "/usr/lib/mailman/Mailman/mm_cfg.py", line 80, in <module>
DEFAULT_URL_HOST = www.pilotalk.com
NameError: name 'www' is not defined
I am assuming the lines of the mm_cfg.py which it is having trouble with are these three lines:
DEFAULT_URL_HOST = www.pilotalk.com
DEFAULT_EMAIL_HOST = pilotalk.com
add_virtualhostwww.pilotalk.com, pilotalk.com
Any help would be appreciated.Scott

Strange sound phenomenon in Fedora Core 5.
by Erik P. Olsen
The following scenario can be repeated over and over again:
1. Get some sound out of your speakers - f.ex. your favourite music
2. Mute the sound
3. Launch a console (gnome-terminal)
Then sound is unmuted again. Is that normal, a bug or can it be controlled
somewhere?

Intel ipw3945 wireless stoped working after update to kernel 2.6.20-1.2962
by potat0
Story:
Initial setup of the ipw3945 on Fc6, wasn't straight forward,
but after some googling around, I've figure out that I would
need to switch my i386 kernel to an i686 so it could match the
packages available. Initial used atrpms, didn't worked, then
used freshrpms.... it would eventually started working.
Problem:
After my last update to kernel 2.6.20-1.2962 my eth1 just
disapeard.... no messages on the /var/messages the /sbin/ipw3945d
when forced to started just complains:
# /sbin/ipw3945d
ipw3945d - regulatory daemon
Copyright (C) 2005-2006 Intel Corporation. All rights reserved.
version: 1.7.22
2007-07-01 17:09:58: ERROR: Could not find Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG
Network Connection
Ups...
Solution:
# cd /var/lib/dkms/ipw3945/1.2.1-1/build
# make
# cp ipw3945.ko
/lib/modules/2.6.20-1.2962.fc6/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/
# depmod -a
# service ipw3945d restart
And got it back to life.

Gnome
by Jeffrey Ross
I just starting moving a lot of files on to a USB hard disk, which
consists of deleting about 20 GB of data and then putting about 15GB of
data back on. This appears to be working fine, however....
Once I started the data copies (two of them) and the "empty trash"
commands all at the same time I noticed that I lost the ability to
manipulate the windows on the screen. I lost the border around the
windows, I can't resize, minimize, maximize etc.
Suggestions?
Thanks, Jeff

pcHDTV and Fedora 7?
by Tom Horsley
Anyone successfully using a HD-5500 card from
http://www.pchdtv.com/ on Fedora 7?
Been thinking about giving it a try, but
thought I should look for success stories
first :-).
(This would be on an x86_64 dual core AMD system).
Or maybe I'll wait a while and see if they come
out with a cable card compatible version so I
can watch encrypted channels too...

Re: kernels

Subject: kernels
There appears to be a lot of talk about kernel bugs. I heard that
the stock F7 kernel has bugs and it is known as 2.6.21-1,3194 and in the
updates it was changed to
2.6.21-1,3228. This makes me think both of these are the same identical
kernel with some changes in the huge number of compiled in modules. This
update is a change in the modules that are compiled in. With a lot of
work you could compare the modules and discover what happened.
For sure Red Hat could have done the update package. And they could
have decided which modules to remove/add. Where can you read about all this?
Karl
Karl,
The kernel is evolving and changing everytime. Old bugs are squashed and new ones are introduced. The patches released fix certain bugs and the cycle continues. Dave Jones is the specialist and has several people helping him out as well.
http://www.codemonkey.org.uk/projects/fedora/
or
http://kernelslacker.livejournal.com/
will give you more information. There is also a fedora-kernel-list that may/may not be in your best interests to join.
There are several bugs for which you can see here
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/showdependencytree.cgi?id=184121
You can also compile your own kernel as well if you need to.
Regards,
Antonio
