As I pointed out in the email you are responding to, there is no
application support requirement here.

The point is that applications can't depend on this behaviour, because
there's no standardised API for managing it. That's not too much of a
problem for packaging things inside Fedora, but it's somewhat
problematic for independently packaged apps.
