Partnership opportunity with freenode!
by Justin W. Flory
Hey everyone,
A few weeks back, you may have received an IRC notice from the freenode
staff about their community team and a blog post they had authored on
their website.
https://freenode.net/news/community
In short, the freenode community team is looking for more ways to engage
with the open source communities throughout freenode and to showcase the
awesome work happening throughout freenode. I reached out via email to
their community team to see if Fedora could try to help pilot something
with regards to these new outreach efforts. Fortunately, the freenode
folks have been more than kind to help provide us with some awesome
opportunities! This is exciting because I think we will be helping drive
this effort throughout the entire freenode community as positive role
models.
There's two things they were hoping to work with us on:
1) Articles about the Fedora Project, the Fedora community, or other
exciting news about Fedora for the freenode blog and other platforms
2) Hosting an AMA on IRC to accompany a blog post for community members
across freenode to ask questions about Fedora and engage with the project
They were also interested in having general articles about open source,
IRC tips, etc. that could be a good opportunity to showcase technical
expertise from Fedora community members for sharing across freenode.
One of the first things I would like to help put together for this is a
general, introductory article about Fedora for a broad open source
audience. It seems like an obvious thing to do, but I was having
troubles locating any kind of "usual spiel" on this. Since it's
something fundamental to identifying Fedora in the open source
community, I wasn't sure if there was any kind of content like this
available already we could pull from? If not, I would be happy to try
writing something up and getting feedback from the rest of the team, but
I figured I would ask first before accidentally duplicating work.
Thanks everyone! If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Also, feel
free to idle in their channel as well (#freenode-community).

Helping re-energize Marketing
by Justin W. Flory
=======================================================================

=======================================================================
WHAT: Bringing more energy into Marketing team
HOW: Identifying problems, proposing solutions
WHY: Improve experience in Marketing, helping move towards more
creative innovation as a team
WE NEED YOU: Check ticket, read solutions, give feedback
LINK: https://pagure.io/fedora-commops/issue/48
=======================================================================
Hey everyone,
I wanted to bring a topic up for discussion that started in CommOps a
while back and I'm now getting time to revisit. In CommOps, we are
working through helping individual sub-projects improve their
on-boarding tools and strategies to bring in more contributors and also
to help retain them.
In the original CommOps meeting to brainstorm, Gabriele and I helped
provide context to identifying some of the current struggles and
problems of Marketing. After gaining some of the background, we all
tried to come up with some ideas on how to fix these problems and
improve the experience for newcomers (and maybe even long-time
contributors too). :-)
All of this discussion is summarized into nice bulletpoints in this ticket:
https://pagure.io/fedora-commops/issue/48
It would be great if some other Marketing folks could check out this
ticket and leave feedback. Since I'm contributing in both CommOps and
Marketing, I'm helping guide this along and hopefully we can begin
trying to create a plan or steps to follow to help implement some of the
solutions in the ticket at the next Marketing and CommOps meetings.
Thanks everyone!

Fedmag post for Digital Ocean
by Dusty Mabe
Hey all,
We have Fedora in DigitalOcean now. I'd like to propose that we make a post on the magazine.
The post is in the magazine as a "pitch" right now. If possible I'd like to receive comments
and then make any edits myself. This allows me to grow over time as I write more articles.
Thanks,
Dusty

[fedora-marketing] Issue #242 `Update release activity steps / process on the wiki`
by Pagure
jflory7 added a new comment to an issue you are following:
``
@bproffit @linuxmodder @mailga I think the best next step for this ticket will be identify key tasks and responsibilities associated with the Marketing team, and then updating the wiki page with more descript versions of those tasks.
To help get some brainstorming going…
* **Create talking points**
* The Marketing team coordinates with other Working Groups, SIGs, and teams in Fedora to summarize what's new in the coming release of Fedora. This information is used to build the release announcements and is often quoted directly by the press. It's important this task is started around two weeks before the Alpha release so accurate information can be collected.
* **Collect screenshots**
* The team also collects screenshots from the upcoming versions of Fedora to use for release announcements, sharing with the press, or promoting new features in all of Fedora's Editions and Spins. These screenshots are usually shared wide and far. When taking the screenshots, it's important to use a "stock" configuration of the Edition or Spin to accurately reflect what the user will see when first logging in.
Perhaps we could use this as an opportunity to flesh out some of our other tasks, like the press kit, feature profiles, and other things (perhaps related to #232?).

``
I double-checked this now, and it seems like a lot of the errors being thrown are related to images hosted on the CDN. We're troubleshooting an issue with images now, so I'm not sure if it's related to some of the failures found in the RSS validation. I would like to try to get to the bottom of this once we clear up any remaining issues with our CDN.
