In Rawhide and F21 alpha (and beta), the start page for firefox is now
about:newtab, with
start.fedoraproject.org a pinned page.
From the stats on Fedora Magazine — which means someone saw a headline
there and clicked — it's getting a _lot_ of use. Generating magazine
traffic is good, but even more importantly, this is one of our key
channels of communication to users.
Since the pinned page doesn't show you the new headlines, I'm concerned
that we're going to lose a lot from this switch. (We could of course
also pin the magazine directly, but, again, no headlines...)
Do we want to ask the package maintainer to revert the change? I know
there was some talk of updating the start.fpo design, but that seems
like a separate consideration.

Hi Matthew,
indeed having a blank tab is not what I personally like to have in a
browser and I confirm that there are many people using the start.fpo page
as their default browserpage.
We have discussed the redesign of start.fpo a few weeks ago, but will not
be able to start working on it before Fedora 21 final release. The ideas
are pretty much what you already said and should be focused more on the
magazine than on the planet.
I think, but maybe Marketing is the appropriate group for that, having the
actual start.fpo page as default is for sure better than having nothing,
and once we switch to the new design it could be used easily to link to our
other new pages, as
getfedora.org and for F22 the hubs.
Thank you for bringing up this topic in time to revert the changes.
