Magazine Front Page

[Chris Roberts]

I have been updating the front page of the magazine so it does not look so dull with the
featured images. 

I think going forward we should try to find an image(with out breaking copyright rules and
such) to match what we are posting. I agree with Joe seeing the same Fedora logo over and
over again makes the page look boring. Unless we cant find a good images then I suggest
using the Fedora logo. 

Thoughts?

Why not define some categories (if you don't already have them) of the 
types of articles you typically post, and the design team can develop 
some artwork to represent each category?

I actually have a ticket created with Sirko, I will update the ticket with the categories.
I will get it updated today so we can get some artwork created for the site. This week has
been crazy with studying for the RHCSA that I just took. :)

Why not define some categories (if you don't already have them) of the 
types of articles you typically post, and the design team can develop

I like Mizmo's idea, we could create different images, according to our 
categories. At the beginning we could make artwork only for the "General 
News" and "Development News" as these categories are the most used.

I also like the icons that we use now, as featured image in our posts 
(eg. Vote, Time is up (for the F18 EOL)). +1 to whoever changed them ;)

push the content down the page. I'd actually suggest that we put the
articles at the top instead. (Maybe the banner could go at the bottom of the
page? Or just remove it?)

We can remove it, but instead moving it at the bottom it would seem ugly in my opinion.

We can also set it up to one static image (and not to 4, that it auto rotates every 5
seconds atm), for example the group picture from Flock / Latam Fudcon redirecting to our
event report we have in the magazine. What do you guys think about that? 

Another static image we could use is a nicely edited photo from our busy booth at fosdem
for example (redirecting to our event report), because the flock picture is a bit old. In
that case we could have always new pictures, according to our presence in various events,
which we could change once in a while, so the magazine doesn't look boring.

Thoughts?

I think the rotating images should really be image + summary for the top 
featured articles. So they should actually be, you know, valid content. 
That was the intent we (the design team) had with the mockups we did for 
the site.

+1 like we have on fp.o! and marketing team should find a solution to
change them regularly and give the design team time to do them ;)


for the categories, Mo yes I already said that to Chris and he added some
of them as the sizes to the ticket, I will take the ticket and try to do it
with attendees of the hackfest Tuan, Kushal and me do on March 2nd in Phnom
Phen [0]. I hopefully find somebody who is interested in joining design
team and willing to work on that, if not I will do them.

In general, more categories would be better as there can be another
picture, if there are no ideas for more. I look we can make 2 or 3 a
category (what would be not a nice solution).
