susmit, I am sarbartha from RCCIIT Beliaghata, Kolkata. My friend Dipanjan is also ambassador of fedora. As you know he and me approached to our college principle about this mentro programme. Our principle is quie interested to allow our student for this kind of project. But he wants a offitial mail from any fedora member except us (as we r student of this college) so u please send a mail for this project to anirban.mukharjee@rcciit.in and pls send a carbon copy of that mail to us at oxygenforu88@yahoo.com and chakraborty.dipanjan@gmail.com thus we can approach again after sending your mail. Thanks a lot, Sarbartha

Bro, wait a bit, I am preparing the draft. As soon as it is completed, I shall mail you. Thanks.
Dear Ahsan,
Why don't you come to our program in Dharan, Nepal. We are organizing a workshop on August second week. Maybe you have seen my thread.
This will be a great opportunity for both of us. There is no registration charge and lodging is something I can manage(But let me know how many are interested first). You can come by bus (We don't pay any transport charges, sorry). It does not take you more than 3000 Indian Currency each for both way travel.
I can provide you itinerary and other details if you and your friend are interested.
Tushar.

Dear Tushar,
Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, I havent noticed your thread.
To be realistic, most of the students here dont have any passport and it will be a bit difficult for them to go to Nepal in August. (Our term begins on the 26th instant).
Nevertheless I will talk with my friends and let you know.
Thanks and have a nice time.

I'm extremely sorry, I missed this thread. We do have plenty of traffic in Fedora-Ambassador list. That's why I use to check mails under Fedora-Ambassador label (in my Gmail) once in a day or two.
As being a Fedora Ambassador in Bangladesh, it would've been me to answer first for Ahsanur Rashid. My apologies.
Hello Mr. Ahsanur Rashid, I'm very much excited to hear that you (and your friends) want to volunteer for FEDORA (let's say Fedoraproject). I'll love to help you in this regard, I can arrange an event for this at your Canteen or at my office (can be convert into a mid-size gathering facility for 10 person).
We have had arranged "Fedora 9 Release Party at FREPD Auditorium near Pallasy Crossing" withing walking distnce from your University. You might haven't notice various Bangladeshi Mailing List.
Anyway, please let us know if we can arrange something for you after your term finals.
Dear MAK,
Thanks for your mail.
I meant the class of our next term start from 26th instant
Yes, I didnt miss the news of your party..but due to exams i couldnt be there.
Since we are cse students, the best thing that can be done is arranging some workshop or the like on getting started on the fedora project. Say, things like how to code for fedora...and other technical know-hows..
Please let me know if anything can be done!
Thanks and have a nice time.

Thank you for this mail.
In the past we tried with a global mentor program but it didn't have the success we wanted.
What you ask, and all the replies I read in this thread, underline the importance of a local Mentor system.
FAmSCo, in this way, is listening all the opinion that comes around the world and it's available to be a point of reference in the process of the creation of a Local mentor program.
What Susmit (the links he gave are the right ones) said are good news, and in the past months he and the APAC community started a constructive discussion around localization.
FAmSCo is here to hear you request and give a helpfull hand. If you have specific requests/questions/proposal about this issue, fell free to write here (in this list) or contact FAmSCo, it's important your opinion and your actions to help it working concretely for you.

hi..thanks for the mail...
i think you should also consider an academic program as well
Students will be able to work on FEDORA project as pert of their term project !
also, internship maybe iontroduced with certificates given, studetns appreciate certificates.
a effective region based mentoring system might be started ...and then we can move on to a local mentoring system.
the important thing is, the mentoring system needs to be implemented anew asap. this way more students can take part.

The case with my college is that they want somebody from Fedora to approach them officially. Susmit is working on that. And I am sure he will come up with a solution soon. No doubt certifications will be an incentive. But are there enough projects for the undergraduate level students? We must work on this point.

hi friends, I would suggest that in think fedora is never short of project its just how we begin. If we mentor a student a student in college for 2 years and ask him to mentor his mates for later years this way a long lasting chain can be developed. Moreover, certificates is something which every students appreciate as it improves students resume.I think this way it will work in India where students wants to shift to Linux but don't have right guidance to help them out. Moreover ambassdors can conduct some training session in their region to promote fedora. Regards, Ankit Govil

That depends on the skill set and interest of the students involved and cannot be generalized. There are projects at various levels and I am sure they can find a few they would be interested in.

By 'officially' if you mean in the same fashion as any software development company in your local area approaches the college, then it might be sometime before we arrive at a process for that. Susmit is still at the initial stages of a discussion around the issue.

We can't work on 'this' point till we arrive at some sort of conclusion as to how much pre-loaded with knowledge the target students are. Have they been doing a variety of thing around OS or applications ? If yes, then they are easily pointed to various projects (rather, I'd argue that in this case they would be the ones coming up with various projects). From whatever my limited comprehension of the education system and colleges is, this isn't the case (in India) in a majority of the colleges in India. On the fedora-india list there is an ongoing discussion about how best to ramp up the skillsets of the potential candidates participating in this program. A large part of that is being inspired by what is happening on #dgplug and its IRC classes. Perhaps you'd like to latch on to that thread.
As we stand now, we are trying to roll a program for an audience about whom we don't know much, and barring the 'we'd like official contact' nothing much is known about the authorities who would accept this program.
Its not that 'official'. They would like somebody not related to the college to approach them.
