Hi, here is my report on FOSS.NITC event.
FOSS.NITC was held on 18-19 March in Calicut, Kerala (India). This is mainly a
student based event, where they meet with industry people. Students from NIT
Calicut & other local engineering colleges were there.
It was nice to see that NIT Calicut's computer Lab is almost completely based
on Fedora (FC4). The same thing is there in other colleges too. So most of
the students are very much familiar with Fedora :)
My BoF session was mainly attended by students of 1st & 2nd year. They had
lots questions about Fedora. They never previously used yum. I talked about
FC5 features.
Any slides that we can take a peek at?
One commonly asked question was how to upgrade from FC4 to FC5
(through DVD)
as I was distributing FC4 DVDs.
In the event some people were talking about KDE in Fedora (they don't like the
way it is being packaged), they liked to hear "moving KDE packages into the
Fedora Extras repository".
Thats a proposal. I would be wary of promising it to anyone.
Fedora livecd also rocks.
Some girls were complaining about "No G size tshirts".
The event went good.
Thanks for the report. Since you mention the girls, do you happen to
have some pics of the event ;-)
