Thank you for your activities. However, it will be nice to have a brief summary of what you have done, as I don't remember any event report from you to the list (may be I have overlooked).
Workshop in other colleges & Science schools, Workshop on city level, Produce Monthly Newsletter , Distributing Flyres , Distributing Fedora Dvds
The money can not be allocated prior to the activities. Once you have organised something after letting the list know and updating the event page, we can reimburse you.
Please update the details of workshops to the fedora event page.
There will be no money for distributing DVDs as such as freemedia is a purely voluntary program. if you organise some event, you will be sent DVDs. No issue.
For distributing flyers, to whom you are trying to distribute without an event?
But first of all, please let us know your plan details. If you are planning an event, you are welcome, but you have to update the event page first before any monetary discussion takes place.
Hope this helps.
Thanks.

Susmit, thanks for filling in here. I owe you one.
Zaid, I have your mail in the inbox, yesterday was just too distracting to compose an appropriate response. Susmit has provided a complete response, I'd just be adding a few bits.

Thank you for your activities. However, it will be nice to have a brief summary of what you have done, as I don't remember any event report from you to the list (may be I have overlooked).
So, here's what I did this morning - I checked up Fedora Ambassadors and, Fedora India mailing list to try and read up on what activities you have been involved in and, your reports about the success from them along with any learning that you'd have shared with your peer group and the Fedora folks at large. I haven't come across one. It could be that I haven't searched enough, so, I'd like to know more about what you have been up to (please do not use this mailing address to direct replies to me off list, I do not read mails directly addressed to me on this one).
Workshop in other colleges & Science schools, Workshop on city level, Produce Monthly Newsletter , Distributing Flyres , Distributing Fedora Dvds
In addition to what Susmit writes below, the aspect that I find a trifle odd is that I do not have a request about the line item cost. For example, anything that says "I need funds" (which by the way, also extends to the $subject, it could perhaps have been a bit more explanatory) without a proper plan as to the why-where-when-how_much, is a bit off.
As an example of why I generally hesitate to immediately allocate funds to an event, do please read up https://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-india/2009-May/msg00141.html
The Monthly (in the initial mail it was Weekly) Newsletter does require a bit of coordination with Fedora Marketing as well. Have you initiated discussions with them ?
The money can not be allocated prior to the activities. Once you have organised something after letting the list know and updating the event page, we can reimburse you.

Hello sankarshan, I am from Sabarkantha , Where no body knows about open source, very well ,not event Engineering students, Because , all region is using Pirated Xp & other windows version,
First i created local group taking people together who are interested in Open Source,
We have first done workshop of introduction about fedora & other Open source systems in "Rock-On Concert " of Government Engineering College, Modasa
Where give lecture to the Students and tells them to join this movement of Open source but i previously said there is no such Open Source environment , I found very few students,
You can check website of that party, www.rockon09.co.cc - I am the Administrator of that Party
Then i started to distributing fedora OS by downloading from Internet, And i get good response in it,
I talked to my HOD of Computer/IT department and request him to use Fedora in Labs of Our Department in Government Engineering College, Modasa,
He agree to use it in one Lab. and i installed the fedora in 42 Computers for Students to use it,
After that my exam duration is started so i am inactive for 2 months,
Now i want to do events on city level not only to college level,
So i need banners, stickers, and other Advertisement products,
And it will also cost me for rent of Hall for events, Giving snacks to attendees , Electricity, and other Local expenses ,
It's My mistake that i don't give reports of events, Because i thought it is local events so not necessary to report or advertise it,
But it's my mistake , so i am sorry,
Now i want to plan Event for my city, How i will get banners & etc. and money for its expenses

I think that can help you contact people from Kerala in the south of your country that is makind a lof of effort around it Here is some information http://swatantryam.blogspot.com/2007/08/story-of-free-software-in-kerala-ind...
Theres an organization. http://www.space-kerala.org/node/34
One thing that could be useful, and non technical skill, is stay focus on what u want, resources will go to that place, and if it not, get some creativity to make it possible.
Lets go on!

One of the usual issues I notice is that talking with students exhorting them to directly participate in FOSS is counter-productive. Demonstrating that they can do their day-to-day stuff using FOSS/Fedora instead of proprietary products would make a difference. For example, showing them how to do their assignments of Data Structures or, C/C++ on Fedora and so forth.

A rock concert is sure an interesting way to spread Fedora.
Then i started to distributing fedora OS by downloading from Internet, And i get good response in it,
How many are using it ? Have they faced any issues ? How are you responding to any issues/complaints that they have raised ? For example, NIT-Durgapur / NIT-Agartala have had active mailing lists for their UserGroups to facilitate end user discussions and foster a sense of community.
I talked to my HOD of Computer/IT department and request him to use Fedora in Labs of Our Department in Government Engineering College, Modasa,
He agree to use it in one Lab. and i installed the fedora in 42 Computers for Students to use it,
Again, how are they using it ?
After that my exam duration is started so i am inactive for 2 months,
I'd suggest that you take some time out to get to speed. Fedora 11 was released during this absence and, you should be ready to help handle requests for installation or, talk about the new features etc.
During the period when you were sponsored into the Ambassador Group, you should have received Welcome mails, please go through them and if you have any queries, request that you be assigned a mentor to guide you as to how best you can put your skills and competencies to use.
Now i want to do events on city level not only to college level,
I'd suggest "walk and then run". As of now, I haven't seen concrete results from your time at the college level. Setting up a lab is just the first step, the subsequent steps to coach a good team of people who can help you is most required.
So i need banners, stickers, and other Advertisement products,
I have said this again and, I'd like to re-iterate :
[1] I'd like to see you coordinate with the respective teams to ensure that the artwork ie. banners, stickers and flyers are consistent with the Fedora Design Guidelines.
[2] You should be talking with the Marketing team to ensure that the content on the flyers is relevant and, perhaps figuring if you'd like to have content in your local language too.
And it will also cost me for rent of Hall for events, Giving snacks to attendees , Electricity, and other Local expenses ,
I'd like to see a plan :
- what are you planning as a run-up to the event - how much would it cost per line item - what are your plans - how will you estimate that your events have been successful - what do you intend to do as a follow-up to this event
It's My mistake that i don't give reports of events, Because i thought it is local events so not necessary to report or advertise it,

It would be helpful to have your blog syndicated on Planet Fedora.
Now i want to plan Event for my city, How i will get banners & etc. and money for its expenses
By drawing up a plan. To be very brutal "I want to do an event, I want money for Banners" does not really provide any pointers as to what exactly you are planning.

I don't think there is a need to provide a qualifier to "Ambassador". Being an Ambassador means that you are the face of Fedora in your region. Demonstrating and, living the spirit that keeps the Fedora community ticking should by default make you a role model for your peers.

Hi, sankarshan
Thank you to guide me By efforts Around 300 to 350 students started to use fedora , they have no larger problems but some little because open source products like "Office and etc." are little different then Xp . but they enjoying piracy free unique Product,
Can we have talk on Phone , Because i am new at Fedora and i have not local mentor to guide me,
Every thing is come around how i set up the Event and how to get all necessary things for it, Example : I have to create Banners & etc. or it is provided by Fedora ?
Can you mail me some important materials (videos of previous events, speeches, etc.) so i can get more idea about it

Would it be possible for you to tell more about how you continue interaction with them ? If you use a mailing list, please do pass the link to the archives off-list if you prefer. Since these are Fedora users in India, are they on fedora-india mailing list ? What release of Fedora are they using ? Have many moved to F11 ? Do they have sound or, graphics card related problems ? Would you like to learn how to organize a Test Day so as to motivate them to contribute ? How many use the desktop in their local language ? Have you checked out if Fedora is available in your local language ? What do they use the desktop for ? Are there any packages/software they wish to have but is currently not in the distribution ?
Can we have talk on Phone , Because i am new at Fedora and i have not local mentor to guide me,
The mentors for India are Kushal (kushal at fedoraproject dot org), Rahul (sundaram at fedoraproject dot org) and Susmit (susmit at fedoraproject dot org), please take time to get in touch with at least one of them (I know you have written to Rahul about the event) so as to ensure that they can help you.
Every thing is come around how i set up the Event and how to get all necessary things for it, Example : I have to create Banners & etc. or it is provided by Fedora ?
And, I repeat, I'd like to see a plan. For example, what content would you like to put on the banner ? Have you discussed that with the Marketing folks ? What should be the content of the flyer ? What is the cost per unit of it if you produce it locally, how many would you like to produce ?
The above are questions I have been putting forward for a while, please take time to come up with a proper event plan, including whether you'd like to coordinate with other Ambassadors/Contributors (from India) who can be present at the event and, help you make a point.
Can you mail me some important materials (videos of previous events, speeches, etc.) so i can get more idea about it
I guess this is the moment when we take a step back and exhort you to communicate with a mentor. The Fedora Planet and, this mailing list have had a number of such mails and, a mentor should be able to lead you through this.
Fedora's Hardworking Ambassador - Zaid Chauhan
I would recommended that you drop the "Hardworking" part please. It might seem to be funny but it is not. We have a large base of Ambassadors and, all of them work hard, the qualifier is somewhat redundant.

A pervasive problem, permanent, when someone ask for help to community, marking correction, giver orders and critize signs, but i didnt found in your message something like "how we can help you out"...
..or something like "good work" how can we contribute", no, just "orders" and mailing lists, and other things....
I think that "hardworker" is not a bad sign. If he considers hard worker, its nice...
Anyway dont worry ive contacted that boy to RMS and Free Software Foundation India, for sure this people will help them more than our help....asking him "sign slongan removals"....

Umm... to ask that one has to know what work is going on isn't it ? :) I would request that you read through the responses (from me) in this thread. There are plenty of leading queries which would help Zaid form a response.

Yes. If you do read up how we work with the Ambassadors out of India, we generally ask that they subscribe to the fedora-india list. It helps to foster a group that shares knowledge. As regards "good work", you seem to have missed the response from Susmit. We get to know of work done when the Ambassador talks about them. By Zaid's own admission, he has been busy in other things for the past 2 months. Since we released a new distribution with spanking new features and, enormous media coverage, it would be imperative for him to come up to speed.
For example, as an audience in Zaid's presentation (which has been requested to be shared), would you prefer to have crisp responses and an overall awareness of the project or, would you prefer otherwise ? To all extents and purposes, Ambassadors define the perception of Fedora in the minds of the users, potential users, contributors and, potential contributors. If we, as a group, do not strive for excellence, we fail not only ourselves but the Fedora Project.
I think that "hardworker" is not a bad sign. If he considers hard worker, its nice...
Absolutely, but like all badges, it need not be flaunted. We live in deeds, not words.

I appreciate that. There are multiple FSF groups in India, which one did you point him to by the way ? :)

I go to the head directly to RMS and Juan Carlos Gentile, that has a lot of experience to help people that need assistance. Now, its up to them of course.
Namaste
