Hi Ambassadors,
SHORT VERSION OF ANNOUNCEMENT:
If you are organizing an event that takes place in September, October, or November, and you want budget from FAMSCo, make sure your event is on the FedoraEvents page by August 1.
LONG VERSION OF ANNOUNCEMENT:
We've had a great first half of 2008, and it's time for us to all start thinking about the events that are coming up during Q3, which in Red Hat's timeframe is September 1 - November 30.
As you recall, the process that FAMSCo uses for allocating budget for events is as follows:
One month before the start of the quarter, all events that are (a) listed on the FedoraEvents page and (b) have a specific owner on the FedoraEvents page are allocated budget based on the funds available for that quarter. Anything not on the FedoraEvents page in time will have to be considered separately by FAMSCo for budget.
https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraEvents
So, that means anyone who is planning an event for September, October, or November needs to get their event on the FedoraEvents page, and have a sub-page for organization (if necessary) set up by August 1, which is about 3 weeks from now. My thanks to everyone who already has their events on there.
We're going to start the Events budget for next quarter at $12,000 USD, but past experience has shown us that the number will creep up over time. Therefore, starting at $12,000 USD gives FAMSCo some "buffer space" for unexpected things that come up.
Please note that FUDCon Brno 2008 has its own separate budget, and funding that event will not come out of FAMSCo's budget.
In addition to thoe events that FAMSCo funds, FAMSCo also will continue to set aside money to specifically support local regions in things like creating swag and producing media.
Thanks for your time and attention. Keep up the great job representing Fedora!

Awesome! What kind of resources do you think you'll need to be successful?

I can talk as a Fedora ambassador and also as an organization member:
As an Ambassador
I'm trying to accept 4 local ambassadors as Conferencist, but I'll like to bring some international ambassador as well.
It could be great to have some T-shirts (we have some that we made by our own; but they have more than 2 years old now.. and only have 5 of them; now we are more than 15 members).
Aditional, I don't really know if this could be possible; but can be a cool thing that our conferencist could give some gifts at the end of their conferences (I'll be one of them)... something like a T-shirt, cd's, stickers... a penguin... lol; really don't know; but "something" could be great.
This Expo & Conferes is International; people from Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Panamá, Colombia, Brasil, Mexico and others are going to attend as conferencist and as general public. I have to be honest with one thing... Venezuela is going trough an Ubuntu/Debian Colapse, and people is starting to use more fedora in pro of the new AND stable software that our distro can offer... I'll like to help that with some "high level" conferencist from fedora. Do you know who can come?... maybe yourself Mr. Spevack... we could enjoy your presence here :D. but I'll vote also for Rodrigo Padula... he has been a mayor help specially for me.
/me :$
Well... I'll keep in touch; this is the first big event at Venezuela; it would be something speciall for us.
Thanks for all this kind of help :$

In the general case, however, FAMSCo makes all these decisions, and if there are any questions or concerns, this list is exactly the place to ask!

So I was wondering, how did it go ? :D

Right, that page needs to be removed as soon as possible, because it is totally old and outdated from a process point of view.
We are trying to follow this model:
FAMSCo allocates budget, and the event organizer takes care of the rest. In some cases, we have local leaders in place who help with efficiency by generating a bunch of swag locally and then redistributing it later on.
The best thing that you can do is think about how many Live CDs or DVDs you would like, and contact one or two local production companies to you for quotes, and then let us know what you hear back, so we can factor that into the budget request.
For India, I would highly recommend contacting Sankarshan and Rahul for local help in mass-producing CDs and DVDs. There is a fund of money set aside specifically for that purpose in India, and they might be able to make it trivially easy for you to get stuff.
I've cc'd them.

Hi

I ve got some suggestions on this front.I have satisfied most of the DVD requests that i get. As an ambassador, i burn the images on to the DVD and give it to people requested. I get personal emails and i reply to them and i help them to get the DVDs. My suggestion is that if we can collect some metrics on how many DVD requests are from India or APAC it would be helpful for FAMSCO to take decisions on budgeting etc or could also be used for some reference. I also understand that the Fedora Free Media request is available but the Media requests that ambassadors get personally could also be tracked in the Wiki page. I feel this metrics would help us.
These are just my suggestions. Hope you don't mind :)
Cheers, Balaji

Judging from the correspondence with the organisers, 40 Live cd and 40 DVD will do. And will need a few posters and (if possible) a few stickers.

Just to attack this one area -- because there's currently not a good user-accessible delete function (for many good reasons), here's how to do this:
1. Use the "What links here" link on the navigation menu to find an correct any links. 2. Put the following wiki template code at the top of the outdated page: {{old}}
ambassadors@lists.fedoraproject.org
