Recruiting Students (Campus Ambassadors)
by Jack Aboutboul
Hey All,
I'm sorry I missed the marketing meeting earlier today, but I was told
that there was discussion of recruiting students to help out with Fedora
and Fedora marketing efforts. I have been working for the past couple
of weeks to put together something modeled after the ambassadors which I
tentatively call "Campus Ambassadors". The mission of the campus
ambassadors is something similar to what Mozilla does with the Firefox
Campus Rep program--to have someone who can speak to the student body
about Fedora and represent Fedora at relevant campus events.
Also, I am looking to require campus ambassadors to hold one info
session or tech talk type thing per semester to make sure that there is
constant action and interest in Fedora.
There will be a community architecture team meeting in Raleigh next week
at which I would like to present the final plan for this and officially
launch. I have already been in contact with a number of students from
various universities (Berkeley, Oswego, CMU, Auburn, Texas A&M) and so
far there is interest.
Just thought I would kick the idea out to the list and see what people
had to say. My plan is to put up a wiki page for this tomorrow or over
the weekend, so that it can be presented next week.
Thanks,
Jack

I was just thinking about a Fedora News Channel
by Markus McLaughlin
I too think there should a Fedora News Channel site covering success stories
with Fedora, Red Hat related news concerning Fedora, educational uses of
Fedora, multimedia uses, and FUN things to do with it as well.
If anyone loves the idea too, let's propose : FedoraNews.wordpress.com,
which anyone can add a blog posting, a photo, a video in Theora & QuickTime
from a FUDcon, audio using OGG Vorbis & AAC...
This site will automatically use RSS (which I add feeds to my most excellent
RSS reader : Rhetoris, for MACs,
which utiliizes text to speech.) *GOOGLE Rhetoris, Mac Users!* :D
Have a great Fourth of July!

Small Businesses WILL need a Red Hat Linux suited for them!!!
by Markus McLaughlin
I remember Red Hat Linux all too well, I think it needed to go away for a
while, but now that Vista isn't doing so well, it is time to revive RHL but
have it sold to Small Businesses instead. So I will put out the Proposal on
my Linux Blog and see if that need could be fulfilled. I am tired of seeing
Target sell JUST Windows Vista or XP Software. Remember, I am not a
Programmer, just a Concept Man. When I have an idea, I go with it, and
see if it could be made, be it a film, tv show, or maybe even an Operating
System! Never say never!

The only way I will submit news to FWN....
by Markus McLaughlin
The only way I would contribute to Fedora Weekly News is to also have the
Fedora related News I write appear on my Linux Blog which I want to convert
to a Magazine with other Writers who care about Linux as I do. This is how
I want to do it...

FWN: Marketing beat complete
by Pascal Calarco
Just a quick note that the Marketing beat has been updated from last
week and is complete.
Everyone, if you plan to have your beat in for this week, please echo to
the list so we have an idea if we have enough content for an issue this
week.
It seems there is significant momentum building to evolve FWN from the
wiki to Wordpress and/or Fedora TV. We may want to start some
discussion around this after we get the next issue out.
Certainly we could reference and create RSS feeds for audio and video
items posted to Fedora TV from within a Wordpress FWN. What needs to
happen still to move over to Wordpress Multiuser, and is help needed to
get this accomplished? Thanks all!

New Miro Update
by Jonathan Roberts
Hi all,
Just thought I'd let you know I've just updated the Fedora TV channel
to include the recording Clint made of Paul's FUDCon speech. Should be
hitting Miro soon - hopefully the plain audio works :)

Help Needed: Is Miro Updating?
by Jonathan Roberts
Hey all,
I updated the feed for Miro last night to include one of Kushal's
videos, but I'm not seeing it update on either miroguide.com or Miro
itself. Could somebody else check to see that it's not just me this is
happening to, and also have a look to see if they can figure out what
I've done wrong (I don't think I've done anything, but often it's easy
to miss simple things!). The feed URL is:

Liberation Fonts Increase Document Interoperability
by Rahul Sundaram
Hi,
Debian had earlier rejected the font claiming the license is non-free
but has now reversed that decision. At this point, all the major
distributions already provide this font and many of them seem to include
it by default too.
http://www.quantenblog.net/free-software/liberation-fonts
"Red Hat's Tom "spot" Callaway spoke to the FSF and they indicated the
license was fine according to them. When I came across this issue, I
asked the FSF once more, explicitly pointing them to RMS's point of
view. They replied that they definitely consider this license to be
valid. And thanks to the persistent work of Holger Levsen, we finally
managed to convince the Debian ftp-masters as well."
