[Fedora Magazine] Wordpress success!

Hi folks, Nirik set up fedora-mag-admin(a)fedoraproject.org for us and I used it to set up an OpenShift account. I discovered a few things: - It's dead simple to set up WordPress on OpenShift. - WordPress has a built-in update system that seems to work fine on OpenShift, so maintenance should not be too difficult. - I tested out the OpenID plugin for WordPress with my FAS account, and it works fine. We can limit account creations to only those with valid OpenIDs. Once someone logs in with an OpenID and creates an account, an admin can promote them to any role needed. So, it's looking good to run Fedora Magazine on OpenShift / Wordpress. Here's the running instance I have now: http://wp-fedoramag.rhcloud.com/ ~m

The new FWN -- old list or new list?

To recap: - We decided to replace FWN with an update newsletter of highlights from things that are posted to the new Fedora Magazine. - Fedora Weekly News is sent to fedora-announce-list. Question: Should we continue to send this update to fedora-announce-list, or should Fedora Magazine have its own subscriber list? Is there a subset of people who might be interested in the Fedora Magazine updates who wouldn't be interested in being on fedora-announce-list? Discuss!

[Interview Videos] Intro clip mockup

Hi folks! Last week during the meeting we discussed the project to create a series of video interviews to celebrate Fedora's 10th anniversary [1]. We need both an intro and outro video to tack on the front and back of the interviews to make them consistent and feel more like a 'series' of videos. Self-Introduction: Jonathan Seeley

Hello all, My name is Jonathan Seeley. I live in Cincinnati, OH, USA where I work as a management consultant specializing in public sector finance. My FAS username is jseeley and my IRC nick is jseeley as well. I’m probably a bit different than most Fedora contributors in that (1) I have no experience and little interest in programming, coding or software development, and (2) I have no background in IT, computer science or any type of technology at all. However, I enjoy using Fedora on my home computer and I am a proponent of free and open source software in general. I decided to become a contributor because I want to help promote and facilitate the use of Fedora at home and in the workplace. I’m interested in joining the Marketing Team because I believe I can provide input and guidance on what corporations are looking for in an operating system and how to effectively communicate the features of Fedora and the advantages it has over its competitors. This is definitely the first FOSS project I’ve worked on. I’ve been involved with several marketing projects in the past, most dealing with RFP/Q responses, general business development initiatives, and the direct marketing of products and services to potential clients. The technical skills I hope to utilize in Fedora Marketing are: * Quantitative modeling and forecasting of usage/activity * Cost-benefit analyses and economic impact studies * Benchmarking and statistical analyses * Development and application of effective marketing practices and strategies In addition to my day job, I am enrolled in the MBA program at the University of Cincinnati. My interests include golf, skiing, piano, travel and aviation. I’m a fan of most sports, but particularly American football and basketball (I’m attempting to follow cricket, but it’s difficult find coverage where I live). I plan on sitting in on a few IRC meetings and volunteering my help wherever needed, but if you’d like me to help out with a specific project, please just let me know and I’ll be happy to contribute whatever I can! FAmSCo calls for F18 release parties!

Hi, we're just a few weeks away from the release of long awaited Fedora 18 and we have just a few registered release parties: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/F18_release_events APAC has done a good job, but EMEA has only one release party currently, and LATAM and NA not a single one. Fedora 18 is going to be a great release and release parties are a great opportunity to show the release to users. They're really important from from the marketing perspective and are usually a lot of fun, too. That's why FAmSCo would like to encourage you to organize one in your city, university,... Fedora Project can help you cover costs related to release party organizing and don't forget that FAmSCo has announced a contest in which organizers of the best release party in each region will be given $80 to have a nice dinner.
