Containers in Fedora: Docker article
by Ryan Lerch
HI all,
I just did my editorial pass of the docker article, and it is looking
awesome! I have also created the featured image for it, and added it to
the article.
As a docker noob, i felt this gave a good overview of Docker, but the "What
is Docker" section could probably do with a little expanding. This is what
is currently there:
"""
Docker is a high level set of tools that allows multiple isolated
applications to run on a same host platform. Unlike other containerization
software we talk about in this series, Docker is meant to run a system with
a single process. In addition to providing these tools, Docker provides a
"hub" for containers created by others.
"""
Each of the 3 sentences in here would probably benefit from a little more
information, explaination, and maybe an example.
Sentence one is pretty good, but my question here is that if i am running
fedora as my host, does that mean i can only run Fedora Docker containers?
(i really don't know -- as said before i am a docker / containers noob)
Sentence Two might benefit from a simple real-world example of designed
usage here -- maybe describing a web app running in one container, and a db
server running in another?
Sentence Three would also benefit from an expanded description of the
docker hub too -- i am not too familiar with it, but this sentence did not
really tell me much about it -- maybe some examples of some containers or
container sets i can find on the docker hub might be useful here.
cheers,

[Minutes] [2016-08-16] Monday, Aug. 29, many things planned; talking points; passwords
by Justin W. Flory
Hey all! Another meeting finished up today. We covered four main topics
in our tickets.
One thing you need to know is that Monday, August 29, 2016, is proposed
to be a big day. Currently scheduled for that day is the following:
* Separation of the Magazine to its own mailing list and IRC channel
* Migration from Trac to Pagure
The full discussion on these topics are in their respective tickets and
the logs below. I will be sending out an email about this date
specifically to the list to boost awareness.
We also covered talking points and the on-going wrangling process for
information. I think we will be on track to have this info by the Alpha
announcement time. Additionally, we're on the tail-end of the discussion
for password storage and distribution. With the advent of TweetDeck, all
platforms can be granted access without requiring passwords, and we will
opt to store the passwords inside of Fedora Infrastructure's
pre-existing system maintained by the sysadmin-main.
More info will be added to each ticket shortly. Thanks for coming out to
this meeting time, everyone! See you next week.

* ACTION: bkp Reach out to jzb about talking points for F25 Cloud
(jflory7, 13:25:21)

info, we can revisit for building them up (jflory7, 13:30:05)

* "Shared, secure password distribution" (jflory7, 13:30:25)
* Temporary solution for Twitter is identified (i.e. TweetDeck with
user-based authentication instead of a shared password), but
long-term solution for password storage (e.g. the proverbial "hit by
a bus" scenario) is not covered. A solution like pass would still be
effective for this. Perhaps redefining the scope of who would have
access to such a repository. Could it fit into existing
Infrastructure solution (private repos)? puiterwijk (jflory7,
13:30:31)
* ACTION: bkp puiterwijk Collaborate / discuss on moving private
passwords / keys for social media to the pre-existing Infrastructure
private repository (tickets can be closed in Infra + Marketing Trac
once this is complete) (jflory7, 13:35:26)
* AGREED: bkp will share private credentials with puiterwijk to store
in Fedora Infrastructure's private repository for passwords. Twitter
password (possibly others) will be changed to ensure account
security. Twitter will use TweetDeck for granting access to others.
Access for all passwords managed by Fedora Infrastructure sysadmins.
(jflory7, 13:49:26)
* === Ticket #234 === (jflory7, 13:49:34)
* LINK: https://fedorahosted.org/marketing-team/ticket/234 (jflory7,
13:49:38)
* "Consider separating Marketing and Magazine" (jflory7, 13:49:43)
* Ongoing discussion to separate the Magazine and Marketing teams into
their own separate communication channels. Marketing members are
encouraged to leave their votes in the ticket. If no -1 votes,
proposed migration to Magazine mailing list and IRC channel could
collide with PAgure migration on 2016-08-29? (jflory7, 13:49:50)
* IDEA: Migration date: Mon, 2016 Aug 29? +1/0/-1? (jflory7,
13:49:58)
* AGREED: Will aim to migrate from Marketing mailing list and IRC
channel on 2016-08-29 (to magazine(a)lists.fedoraproject.org and
#fedora-magazine) (jflory7, 13:56:14)
* ACTION: jflory7 Look into gaining owner rights on Magazine mailing
list to set it up for incoming traffic in two weeks (jflory7,
13:56:31)
* Upcoming Tasks (jflory7, 13:56:54)
* LINK:

* (1) Create Talking Points (due: Tue 2016-08-09) (jflory7, 13:57:02)
* (2) Email WGs to solicit bullet points for Alpha release
announcement (due: Fri 2016-08-12) (jflory7, 13:57:09)
* (3) Fedora 25 Alpha Release Readiness Meeting (due: Thu 2016-08-18)

* jflory7 is currently marked to represent the Marketing team at the

Flock summary article for the Magazine
by Natalie Ardasevova
Hi guys,
I promised you I would write a Flock summary article about Flock for the Magazine. I should do it soon, and wanted to ask if you have any points which you'd like to see there? The suggestions you gave me for the pre-event article helped me a lot. It would help now as well so I know what to focus on. Should I highlight the keynotes? Conference life? It is not as much a personal view like a blog post, but a more general information... so I need your help :) I assume it would also include links to the videos and transcriptions?
Thank you,
Natalie Ardasevova

Re: Limited Updates on Diaspora Account of Fedora

Brian and Justin:
I can try to assist here... just have to learn about the flavor of the
platform as I have not used it before. Let me know it is something I
can assist with.

My intro
by Stuart Brady
Hello guys,
My name is Stuart Brady and I would like to contribute to the project. I've
only been using Linux for a few months and I don't have great technical
skills yet (though I'm learning). However, I thought I could help by
editing/proofreading articles and such like for the magazine. I'm a
certified English Language Arts/Social Studies teacher currently working
Japan, so I have a fair bit of experience helping non-native speakers with
their writing. I could probably make a commitment of around three hours per
week. My email is sbrady1215(a)gmail.com.
If you think I might be able to help, don't hesitate to let me know:)
Regards,
Stuart

Article Series/Badge Idea
by Brian Exelbierd
Sirko recently wrote on his blog about awarding the F24 Release Party
Organizer badge only to people who wrote event reports[0]
This got me thinking. I wonder if we should propose a new badge and
create a new Magazine or Comm Blog Article series.
Have a wiki, trac or other method by which people can submit the urls
for event reports they write on their blogs. Once a month someone can
summarize them into a link post. A few words about what is after each
link and a link list. I suggest a title along the lines of "What
happened in Fedora last month around the world". Yes, that needs work.
The article should be a fairly fast and easy piece to write. It would
be a great article for new writers to write as well.
The corresponding badge series would be awarded to every blogger whose
article gets listed in the link list. It will need to be manually
awarded, but is only once per month. The series could be titled
something like "Fedora Reporter" with levels like wiki editing, etc.
Artwork could be a newspaper seller holding a newspaper and saying
"Extra Extra" (or if that is too Americentric, saying nothing.
My goal here is to increase the number of event reports and to allow the
Project to leverage them for additional PR.
I believe that the badge should only be awarded for event reports. So
if someone just posts a photo collection we can give them a paparazzi
badge or something similar. We can make it clear that we are looking
for a detailed event report that covers the basics. They don't need to
be transcripts. We can provide a set of questions to help guide
writers, but not require them.
Comments?
regards,
bex
