Let's equip our Communities in EMEA

Hello everyone, during the last EMEA irc meeting, I proposed that we should make sure all active communities within our region are equipped with basic booth equipment such as roll-up banners and tableclothes. Currently, there is just one or two tableclothes for the whole region. Not every community has its own roll-up banners and while some do, these are not anymore in a proper working condition (e.g. colors have started fading out, stands are showing signs of heavy use). Spending budget on such an initiative can be considered a good investment, since the equipment produced will last for years and will enable our communities to look overall more professional when representing the project during events and conferences. We still have a significant amount of the current fiscal year's budget unspent and we can definitely use some of it. Does your community lack some booth equipment? Actual spent amount not reflecting on APAC FY17 budget page

Hi, This was issue for FY16 budget page and its same again with FY17. [1] We must regularly update Wiki page with actually events we able to make and actual amount spent against it. It helps to better plan remaining events and upcoming/missed event off course on exceptional basis. Any chance to get up update on amount spent till May 2016 events. ? Thanks Beth, I was involved with Meltwater school located at Ghana some years ago and I was ready to go there as a teacher (of teachers, ie. Senior Faculty). Anyhow, this never happened. Now, have to say it in public, my 3 years long project has ended and I am seeking something new (those who want to know more of me, please learn from "devspain.com" or linkedin). Right now I am able to do this donation and luckly I have a friend doing donation at (and organizing) a "summer camp for 4-7 years old" in Gambia. This is why I wanted to step out and offer computers for bit older group. Problem is that she is flying next Thursday! We just cannot have those PC:s on board in the luggage ;-) Also for Freemedia involved: I have a bunch of empty DVDs. I try to burn all of them on the same set to be sent in there. Maybe 50 of them. EMEA Sponsorship Program for Flock

Hello everyone, in the past we have had a tradition of sponsoring EMEA contributors that would like to attend Flock[0] but are not going to receive funding as speakers. The allocated budget for this year was only $800, initially. The adjusted budget is even less. As we wish to assist as many contributors in need as possible, we are going to try and raise that budget. However, no promises made at this point. This program is intended for contributors that currently reside in EMEA. Other regions may feel free to come up with similar programs for their contributors as they see fit. Priority will be given to contributors that have recently maintained a record of activity and also have some kind of work agenda for the conference (e.g. meet with fellow contributors, actively contribute on site). In any case, the budget we are going to end up with will be limited. Most likely we will be able to offer only -partial- subsidies. Do not apply if you are not okay with that. If you are able to receive funding from other sources (e.g. your employer), please do so. To request for sponsorship, file a ticket on the EMEA Trac[1], state the reason(s) for applying and what you expect to accomplish by attending the conference. Deadline should be July 5, 23:59:59 UTC +0. All tickets will be later evaluated by FAmSCo, same as last time. We will get back to you once we have more information regarding the budget. Fedora 24 Release Party - presentation files

Dear fellow ambassadors, we had a Fedora 24 Release Party yesterday here in Novi Sad, Serbia. Around 60 people came, and we all had loads of fun talking about Fedora and free open source software. I wrote a short event report on my blog here (picture album included): https://nmilosev.svbtle.com/fedora-24-release-party-novi-sad (will write more in depth one, soon as I have some time) Anyway, since ours was one of the first release parties, I thought it would be nice to share the presentation file with the other ambassadors, so you don't have to make it from scratch. The presentation is in English. It is "split" into three parts: 1. What is Fedora and how to get Fedora and how to contribute to Fedora - with some nice graphs from State of Fedora 2016 talk (used with permission :)) 2. Tips and tricks for easier life in Fedora - stuff that people often ask (on Reddit) - how to get drivers and proprietary stuff in Fedora, live-respins etc. 3. What's new in Fedora 24 - quick overview of GNOME 3.20 and other stuff The presentation is based on the excellent presentation from a few years ago made by our ambassador giannisk. It surely took me more than 2 weeks to get myself into the various groups I am currently in, so actually doing something useful will have to come after that. In any case, that doesn't solve the issue I pointed out. That said, please don't misunderstand my objection as an objection to anybody participating in the community. My point is that people should be encouraged to participate for the right reasons. I believe Red Hat has contacts in Cummins College for example. They have been active in the django and/or python community in the past IIRC, so I am sure they will look forward to the event. There are a number of women teachers in MITCOE who I am sure will be interested too. This is a 'woman' only event? I think that this violates our core values of "Friends" because this makes the event an exclusive one. We are supposed to be an inclusive community. And why isn't this event gratis? Who gets the money, where does the money go to, etc. I don't think this is very 'Fedora'. It is ok to run this event, but having it under Fedora?
