[Fedora-ambassadors-list] RE: a Fedora Education Partner
by Hornain Frederic
Hi Mario,
Are you a teacher, student or external volunteer ?
And what have you planned to do ?
Now in order to answer your question, you have just to edit the corresponding wiki page and registered yourself then add the date of you next presentation, event, intervention at school.
Oh, yes in order to do that, you have to be obviously a member of Fedora community.
Now, if a school or university wish to be a partner, it should have internaly a group of teachers or students who are working or partcipating actively with the Fedora community.
Then it efforts will be sumitted for approval by the community.
It you have any questions remarks, feel free to contact me.
Best Regards
Fred

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Test Release -1 : A Fedora Live CD
by Chitlesh GOORAH
Hello everyone,
There will now be A livecd based on the Fedora Core 5 Test 3 available
for download here.
We have to thank the Ambassador JonFautley for hosting it temporarily for me.
#001 =======
where to Download and Burn
======================
Im uploading it please wait. It might take hours.
how long it will be available will depend on JonFautley.
#002 ========
About the Live CD:
====================
The liveCD is gnome-based only.
Language & Keyboard settings : french (fr)
ISO size: 677.2 MB
License: same as Fedora Core 5 Test 3
why french? because i had already an iso for
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/ChitleshGoorah/FedoraLiveCDs
this is the cd im using in France to promote FC5.
Ill replace the iso during the weekend by an ENGLISH version.
username = root
password = fedora
ok. Ive built it myself this livecd. I've chosen the packages myself.
If your favorite packages are not in the livecd or it does not support
your language, you can still create your own Fedora Core 5 Test 3 live
cd with Kadischi.
You don't need to be programmer to create it. 30 minutes a Fedora LiveCD.
This is the beauty of the Kadischi Project. You can create of your
Fedora based Livecd with your own selection of packages with having to
smash your head against the wall.
see. www.fedoraproject.org/wikiKadischi/Development
==========
#003 The liveCD and you
===================
For now its meant for i386 only.
if you havent installed FC5 Test * yet and you want to know what's
inside, the livecd is for you. (not everything is inside)
if you want to market FC5 in your surroundings, the livecd is your mate.
The livecd will give you the ability to save your files in a usb
stick, (not like knoppix yet)
please if you can you could help me to write a release note along
during the enhancement of this livecd.

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Ubuntu Linux leader proposes six-week delay
by David Barzilay
New versions of Ubuntu Linux have been released at a steady six-month
cadence, but project founder Mark Shuttleworth is considering a six-week
delay to improve the reliability of an important new version.
The next version, called Dapper Drake, is due in April. It's the first
version that will have longer-term support commitments--three years for
the desktop computer version and five years for servers, compared to 18
months for the current 5.10 "Breezy Badger" version.
Getting those features right is important, Shuttleworth said in an e-
mail on Friday. "We will live with Dapper for five years--so let's give
it a few extra weeks now so that it can be a real asset to the Ubuntu
project for the full duration of its lifespan," Shuttleworth said.

Is FC5 still planned for March 15?

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] Newbie - PatrickMcKelvey
by Pat McKelvey
I am a newbie at this. I read in the past minutes that there is a no
hats rule. Where can I find the rules? What is acceptable?
Also, perhaps a bullet list of the things that an Ambassador needs to be
able to do to function well in the Ambassadorial environment. i.e. How
do you use the IRC, if you normally don't use it.
You need to do the following:
use gnupg - see the man pages for that also ....
use seahorse - ....
Move your signature to pgp.mit keyserver ....
Sign a letter using your GPG signature .. {that can be found by using
gedit. Eventually Thunderbird will have that option. But Fedora C3
version does not. How to do that can be found in the help and man pages
of gedit.}?
set up IRC to get on irc.freenode.net How to do that can be found ...
connect to #fedora-mktg. how to do that can be found ....
Carry on a conversation on that media how to do that can be found ....
I want to support Fedora. I have 15-20 years experience as a system
administrator with UNIX and LINUX. Some of this is new infrastructure
to me as my experience was focused in the box, not the internet. I am
trying to set up an install event with the local Cincinnati LUG. As the
release date is close, I expect I will down load the ISOs and take two
sets to the next meeting for those who want it NOW and dont want to wait.

Maurizio Gnerre tell me that there isn't the possibility to
partecipate to the event becuase it is a sponsored event and to
partecipat is necessary to pay somthing. So he tell me that is
possible to delete this event from the event list, as he proposed
time ago.
I attach the mail that he send to me:

[Fedora-ambassadors-list] AREL event 12 march 2006 - Report
by Thomas Canniot
AREL is a local organisation that promotes education and entertainment.
They were organising a multimedia event on sunday which aimed at
introducing all the organisation of the area (photo, radio, internet,
computer sciencing...)
Some people who wish to create a local LUG were there to show
open-source softwares and discuss about creating a local lug.
I was among them.
We were about 4 men on the booth promoting freesoftware. 3 of them had
brought there laptop (i don't have one) to show their distributions.
Moreover, I could not bring my own computer with me as I went there by
train.
It was a very local event, then about 100 - 150 people came to the event
in general.
Many people came and asked questions about free software in general. As
it was a first approach meeting in the area, it was more relevant to
explain free software principles.
Many of them had already heard about Linux, but no distribution name was
known.
About Fedora, not having my own laptop caused me a lot of problems.
First, it was very difficult to request a 100% Fedora/Kadischi laptop.
My friends do not know about Fedora that much and are more at ease - for
the moment - with debian-like distribution.
Then, not having a laptop was as well a problem to burn iso. The public
were more interested in live-cd and I was very reluctant to burn a
still-in-developpment live cd based on a beta-distribution. I only burnt
one of them, to a Fedora fan (wow!).
Many people were very interested in free software, as an alternative of
warez and piracy. That is a good point we have for us. Some of them
failed to understand that it is possible to make software for free.
However i learned a lot of things about promoting fedora core.
- I need a laptop :)
- We really need a live cd. About it, I think that we must keep the way
it is at the moment, I mean, zero-configuration live-cd, that boots up
without asking any question. Many people attending on the booth were a
bit disturbed by the simple choice of the screen resolution question of
Ubuntu live-cd for example.
- We really need video to promote Fedora Core. Red Hat's videos
(truthappens, choice, inevitable) are good ones to attract public
attention and establishing a first contact with people, but they are not
relevant for Fedora. I am going to see what can be done about this kind
of video but I can't promise anything.
Photos of the booth are available online there :
http://mrtomlinux.multiply.com/photos/album/6
About the local lug, it is likely to be created soon. It was a good day
for free software, but not so good for fedora.
Cheers
