perl on xfce live
by Kevin Fenzi
Greetings.
In the past we have had perl on the Xfce live media due to a dep in exo
(it has a helper script that is written in perl).
Seth has kindly re-written this script in python:
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9964
So, that removes the perl dep from exo.
However, there are still some more. Here's a f19 nightly with the new exo:

So, we could just do this now.
Or we could try and get the perl dep fixed up in those above that we care about.
Or we could just not bother. ;)
Thoughts?

You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
Any chance of a fix?

LightDM-gtk new background issues
by Martin Sourada
Hi all,
I've been packaging the new backgrounds again and ran into an issue with
LightDM. When I generate the usual PNG that is used by lightdm gtk greeter
(/usr/share/backgrounds/default.png) and install it, everywhere (xfce and
lxde) it works, only lightdm-gtk does show black background instead. I haven't
got a single idea what's different between the spherical cow PNG and the new
one :( While playing around with lightdm settings I noticed that if it fails
to locate set background image, it shows red. For the new image it shows
black background, both for png or jpg. I'm at the loss at my wits.
Relevant packages (desktop-backgrounds-compat):
http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=401939
$ rpm -qa lightdm\*
lightdm-gobject-1.4.0-5.fc18.i686
lightdm-1.4.0-5.fc18.i686
lightdm-gtk-1.3.1-3.fc18.i686
Note that I've tested it on Fedora 18 (local build from the same sources as
in koji).

Martin

Hi all,
are we going to see that release in the stable fedora releases also?
I've just found a f19/rawhide build but I think, given that 0.5.0 is
the actual stable release and 0.4.0 was an unstable one [1], it would be
great to receive it as an update.
Thanks a lot,
Johannes

Sad to read that. I wouldn't suggest a Fedora spin if you use only
GParted, SCNR.
If you have an active connection to the web, just do that command in
your running live environment:
yum install gparted
> Anyone know of an FC18 Xfce spin with gparted on it? Any other spins?
All Fedora spins are listed and can be downloaded:
https://spins.fedoraproject.org/
Suggestion: Use Parted Magic, another actively maintained and nearly
monthly distributed live CD, but unfortunately without a connection to
Fedora. Quite good for backup & recorvery tasks.

Big yellow mouse cursor?
by Beartooth
Last time I had a machine running CentOS (6.2 iirc) I had managed
to get a big yellow arrow to show the mouse cursor. It was wonderful.
Now I have machines running Fedora (17 & 18) and Puppy (5.0) --
and I need cursor symbols that my antiquated eyeballs can spot even
through trifocals. Can anyone tell me a way to get my arrow back??

FC18 Xfce Live CD does not have gparted -- OH NO!!!
by Todd And Margo Chester
Hi All,
Oh No! FC18 XFCE live CD no longer has gparted. That is about 80% of
what I use it for. What a disaster!
Sure I can continue to use FC17 XFCE Live CD, but it won't keep up with
new chipsets. I do "fondly" remember when I discovered that the FC16
XFCE Live CD did not support the C2xx chipset. Had to work till 01:00
in the morning on that one. Yikes!
Anyone know of an FC18 Xfce spin with gparted on it? Any other spins?
Many thanks,
-T
