for "GNOME OS" or ask Jon McCann from the desktop team.
Let me just ask (again), why does gdm depend on PackageKit?
Because the GNOME folks want GDM to offer a "install updates before
shutdown" feature. For details and status please ask on
desktop(a)lists.fedoraproject.org

Seriously, it becomes more and more horrible with that Gnome thingy. It
seems like all major packages are going to become core parts. That's
not good for a modular system.

That is what the term "GNOME OS" tries to describe.
That's not good for a modular system.
