Alt+F3 window menu
by Martin Airs
Good day all,
Just wondering if this is just me or if anyone else experiences this, when I
click on the far left button or right click on a window title bar, the menu
which comes up, comes up in the top left corner of the screen.
No matter were the window is on the desktop it always appears at the top of
the screen, yet when I press Alt+F3 on the keyboard is shows in the right
place.
I thought this might have gone away in 4.7 but its still there.
anyone else see this?
Thanks
Martin

akonadi notes resources and more notes
by Peter G.
There are notes at:
/home/peter/.local/share/notes/
/home/peter/.kde/share/apps/unsortednotes/
/home/peter/.local/share//notes/3fRFZwn3z9
Plus, I have my own notes.ics file, which is actually the only one I need to
use, as it has my data.
What are all of these other ones? Why are there so many? And which one is the
one used by knotes, since knotes no longer shows any notes at all?

KDE + X + Nvidia problems
by Armelius Cameron
Hello,
I am having some issues with KDE + X + Nvidia right now, not sure which one is
the cause, but I am wondering if anyone here has seen the same thing or if
there's any workaround.
My system: 8 core Intel i7, graphic card (as output by "lspci") VGA compatible
controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [Quadro NVS 295] (rev a1). Running fully
updated F14.
Initially I just used Nouveau driver. For the most part, it works just fine (3D
accel., window compositing), but recently I got more and more lock-up. I got
error messages on /var/log/messages similar to
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=618143, but there is no resolution
there. Interestingly, the every lock-up happens when I switch desktop and then
try to interact with Kontact (e.g. check email, my kontact is always full-
screen on a virtual desktop). When the desktop locks-up, I can't even switch
it to another TTY, although I can SSH to it from another machine and reboot it
(switching to init 3 or init 1 didn't work).
So I got tired of it, and just yesterday tried proprietary Nvidia driver from
RPMFusion (basically following the how-to there). With this driver, I haven't
had any lock-up yet, but KDE apps are behaving poorly:
1. Kile with simple latex file would be so sluggish, X uses > 90% of CPU on
"top", with "kile" as the next process on the list.
2. Kate basically has similar behavior
3. kwrite has similar behaviour
4. Kmail / Kontact has similar behavior (esp. with composer window), but much
less severe (CPU usage for X is hovering around 40 - 50%).
So... what's happening here ? Anyone has seen this ? I'm baffled.
Thanks.

F15 / KDE 4.7.2 / Akonadi >= 1.6.2

Hi all,
I was not able to update to 4.7.2. on at least two F15 machines due to the
following error:

akonadi(x86-64) = 1.5.3-1.fc15
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
Is it just me or anyone else having this problem too? :)

KDE 4.7.2 -> folderview -> rename
by Reindl Harald
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=270414
seemes saigo really reverted the WORKING patch and KDE 4.7.2
from kde-redhat repo has the bug again what was fixed a short
time in 4.7.1 - strange that kde-upstream really think it is
the right way that such things are only fixed after angry
people kneel in front of the maintainers
no - i will not kneel in front of any developer for fixing things
that never should happen like breaking core-functions like rename
a file since they must not happen if anybody would test his code

Probably a variant of:
733462 - glibc-2.14.90-6 causes kdeinit4 to segfault
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=733462
fixed in -7 and newer.

control konsole size
by Michael D. Berger
On my Fedora 15, KDE 4, I have a konsole icon on the panel.
When I click it, I would like to get a 80x25 window, which
I may then resize as needed. However, the system sometimes
remembers my last konsole size, and delivers me one of this
last size when I click the icon. How can I make it always
deliver 80x25?
Thanks,
Mike.

KMail and KDE47
by Claude Jones
I just tried to migrate my old KMail structure to KDE47 again last
night. The last attempt resulted in a complete disaster of lost messages
and parallel folder structures, and processes being run that completely
took over the machine and made using it almost impossible.
My methodology:
1) I logged out of KDE and restarted in Gnome
2) I renamed the .kde folder and copied the one from a non KDE47 machine
from work that was working perfectly, which happened to have the same
archive of mail as my home machine
3) I then logged out of Gnome and logged back in to KDE
4) There was an immediate message about migrating the address book that
appeared to succeed after a few moments - Kontact was not running at
this time
5) I started Kontact and got a message about the need to migrate my mail
and did I want to do that - when I answered affirmatively, I got an
almost instantaneous failure message
6) I then tried to run the kmail-migraror --interactive command - this
resulted in an error to the effect that this had already been run and
would not be run again
7) I then repeated steps 1-4 but, instead of then starting Kontact, I
ran the migrator first from a command line
8) This resulted in a lot of activity with a message log box indicating
that the process was running, and then, after a few moments, apparent
success
9) However, when I then opened Kontact, KMail was still a mess - this
time, I ended up with two "KMail folders" trees, with one having my old
folder structure from "Local folders" apparently migrated, but many
folders were not populated with messages, and a second "KMail folders"
tree with only my InBox and Sent Messages boxes which both had a lot of
messages in them
10) I noticed however that there was a lot of hard drive activity and
the messages count in the truncated "KMail folders" tree was changing,
going down, actually - so, I just let things run overnight
11) This morning, the hard drive activity has stopped, and KMail is
responsive, but, there are still two "KMail folders" trees, with a lot
of messages remaining still in the truncated tree; "Local folders" is
nowhere to be seen
12) The second "Kmail folders" tree, the one with all my migrated
sub-folders, now has a lot of messages in each of the folders
Unlike the last attempt, my computer is not bogged down, but top shows
several migration processes running - they look like this:
"8 root RT 0 0 0 0 S 0.0 0.0 0:00.00 migration/1"
there are a number of these running with different numbers after the slash
Also, resulting from the command line invocation of the kmail-migrator
command, I got tons of these:
"/usr/bin/kmail-migrator(31365)" Soprano:
"org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.UnknownObject - No such object path
'/org/soprano/Server'"
Conclusion: things are looking up, but, there are still significant problems
