nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

SELinux is preventing /usr/bin/systemd-tmpfiles from getattr access on the directory /var/tmp/kdecache-root.
by hejian19870919@163.com
SELinux is preventing /usr/bin/systemd-tmpfiles from getattr access
on the directory /var/tmp/kdecache-root.
***** Plugin catchall_labels (83.8 confidence) suggests
********************
If you want to allow systemd-tmpfiles to have getattr access on the
kdecache-root directory
Then you need to change the label on /var/tmp/kdecache-root
Do
# semanage fcontext -a -t FILE_TYPE '/var/tmp/kdecache-root'
where FILE_TYPE is one of the following: security_t, rpm_var_cache_t,
faillog_t, systemd_tmpfiles_t, var_spool_t, httpd_cache_t, proc_net_t,
var_log_t, var_lib_t, var_run_t, textrel_shlib_t, user_home_type,
init_var_run_t, rpm_script_tmp_t, rpm_var_lib_t, file_type,
winbind_var_run_t, security_t, httpd_sys_rw_content_t, file_context_t,
etc_t, cert_t, default_t, home_root_t, rpm_log_t, var_t, var_log_t,
var_run_t, sssd_public_t, abrt_var_run_t, selinux_config_t,
likewise_var_lib_t, user_home_dir_t, default_context_t, sysctl_crypto_t,
filesystem_type, device_t, locale_t, var_auth_t, var_lock_t,
krb5_conf_t, etc_t, file_t, proc_t, man_t, sysfs_t, tmpfs_t, root_t,
tmp_t, config_home_t, usr_t, var_t, cpu_online_t, lockfile,
setrans_var_run_t, pidfile, tmpfile, var_lib_t, var_run_t, device_t,
samba_var_t, sysctl_t, etc_t, abrt_t, bin_t, samba_etc_t, proc_t,
avahi_var_run_t, lib_t, mnt_t, sysfs_t, nscd_var_run_t, nslcd_var_run_t,

krb5_host_rcache_t, var_t, var_t, var_run_t, var_run_t, nscd_var_run_t,
pcscd_var_run_t.
Then execute:
restorecon -v '/var/tmp/kdecache-root'
***** Plugin catchall (17.1 confidence) suggests
***************************
If you believe that systemd-tmpfiles should be allowed getattr access
on the kdecache-root directory by default.
Then you should report this as a bug.
You can generate a local policy module to allow this access.
Do
allow this access for now by executing:
# grep systemd-tmpfile /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol
# semodule -i mypol.pp

Kde Startup delays for 10 - 20 seconds with nepomuk enabled
by Martin (KDE)
Hallo
If I enable nepomuk I have up to 20 seconds delay after the splash sceen
vanishes. The Desktop shows up as normal and I plasma reacts almost
normal but no action takes place. The startup sound sequence is delayed
for the same time.
All mouse actions are cached, so after about 20 seconds the startup
sound plays and the actions are executed (konsole starts,
firefox/thunderbird start ...).
If I disable nepomuk the I can use the desktop as soon as the desktop is
shown.
Anyone seeing this as well? Any hints or solutions?
Regards
Martin

Strange lockup
by Emmett Culley
A week or so ago I ask about this on the Fedora list, but no one there seems to have seen what I am seeing. I have no idea where else to ask.
---------------
Sometime after the first or second update to Fedora 17 I started noticing that Firefox, Thunderbird, Chrome and Gkrellm would stop updating their screens and be unresponsive.
It starts off slowly, in that first I notice one of the above apps doesn't paint immediately after switching to the desktop where that app is running. Then as time goes by it takes longer and longer for those app's to paint. Note that even after they get painted they aren't immediately interactive either.
If I switch to a virtual terminal and run top, I see that each of these apps are at 100%, plus I notice that if I look at the virtual terminal as soon as I switch desktops to a non responsive app I see the abrt-applet is also at 100%.
Except for abrt-applet, once I see one of these apps hit 100%, they never decrease until I kill them.
If I kill one of the apps and restart it, that app works again for a while.
My system is running KDE and is fully updated via the default repositories.
Since I first asked about this on the Fedora list, I uninstalled the abrt-applet RPM, so I don't see it in top anymore, but the other apps are still doing the same thing. One thing I noticed is that if I am not switching between desktops a lot this problem doesn't seem to happen. For example, if I leave my workstation of a couple of hours, when I get back all is well.
Is anybody else seeing this? Any ideas?
Emmett

screen saver
by John Aldrich
How do I stop the screensaver from locking the desktop? This is for my home
system and I'm the only one in the house. Obviously in a business environment,
I wouldn't want to do this, but in my own house, on my own PC, I don't mind.
:D
I've already tried going into "systemsettings" and telling it there NOT to
require a password to stop the screen saver, but that didn't work. I tried as
both the admin and the local user. :(
I'd like to get this done as it's annoying to walk away from my keyboard for a
few minutes and have to unlock it again!

Now that I have used it for 2 days, I have noticed that:
the shutdown option, suspend to RAM, does not work. When one moves the mouse over it,
it greys out and it is impossible to select or activate.

You should at least say what video player you're using.
