Crashes
by Steve Grubb
Hello,
I was curious about something. KDE has its own crash handling system.
How does this community track any metrics around code stability if
upstream gets reports? Kontact has segfaulted 20 times on me today.
Each time it says it cannot generate a bug report. Abrtd does not seem
to pick up anything. Shouldn't it? How does this community track
when a recent update suddenly starts making things crash? Kontact was
fine 3 weeks ago. I updated today (3 weeks of patches) and its crashing
all the time to the point its unusable. It won't generate a bug report,
abrtd seems not to notice either.

nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

F29: kdeinit5 closing unexpectedly every 5 minutes
by John Pilkington
With fully updated F29 I'm suddenly seeing this. 'Please report' but
reporting and debugging seem broken for this. I wonder if it's related
to historic enabling of kdesu and perhaps the kannolo repo?
Suggestions?

kconfig and CVE-2019-14744
by Rex Dieter
FYI, some background,
https://kde.org/info/security/advisory-20190807-1.txt
Upstream decided to disable/remove support for shell commands in kconfig.
Fedora currently utilizes this feature for kde4 local localized user-dir
support via kdeglobals snippet:
kde-profile/minimal/share/config/kdeglobals:
[Paths]
Desktop[$e]=$(xdg-user-dir DESKTOP)
Documents[$e]=$(xdg-user-dir DOCUMENTS)
Personally, now as this apparently only affects kde4 codepaths, I'm
comfortable following upstream's approach as it at most affects only a small
handful of applications still using kde4 libraries.
Thoughts?

[F30] Custom launchers not showing in Fedora menu
by Frédéric
Hi,
I have some custom launchers .desktop files in a custom directory
/softs/launchers.
I put a link to this directory into /usr/share/applications:
# ln -s /softs/launchers /usr/share/applications/fred
I am sure this worked a long time ago (maybe with KDE 4), i.e. the
custom launchers were accessible in the Fedora menu. However, now, it
does not work.
I search a bit and tried to run kbuildsycoca5 after removing .cache
but it did not work.
Is it because my custom launchers are in a subfolder (well, not a real
subfolder as it is a cymlink to a folder)? But I do not want to mix
them with the system ones.
However, when I put one of the custom launchers in
/usr/share/applications, it works.
Is there any possibility to have a subdirectory in
/usr/share/applications? Is there any config file for that?
Thanks,
F
