nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

Kmail no longer quoting when I try to reply
by Arthur Pemberton
After spending about 15 minutes trying to figure out how to create a
new 'tag', KMail has stop quoting, or in any way referencing an email
that I am trying to reply to.
So I am now having to manually copy and "paste as quoting" when I am replying.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Hoping Somebody Can Help Me with a Sound Issue
by Eli Wapniarski
Hiyall
I know that this isn't the right mailing list to ask this and I've already
posted a request for help over at:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=1355763#post1355763
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
As stated in the post...
I recently purchased a Toshiba Qosmio x500 and installed Fedora 12. I've got
all the hardware working.
The only real difficulty that I can see is that when I plug my headphones into
the headhphone jack the speakers are not muted. Every mixer application that I
can run shows very minimalistic options; 4 at best. In kmixer the options
shown are: Master, PCM, Mic, Mic1
The information shown below seems to indicate that Fedora seems to have
located some kind of Modem (Please Note the info about mixers on the bottom
indicates it found something from conexant). And because of the order of
things, It would seem that this device has taken precedence.
Any help to properly configure my sound system would be greatly appreciated.
KDE Info Center shows that I am running:
HDA Intel at 0xfo900000 irq 22
HDA NVidia at 0xcdefc000 irq 17
Audio devices:
0: HDA Generic (DUPLEX)
Synth devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
MIDI devices: NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG
Timers:
31: system timer
Mixers:
0: Conexant ID 5067
1: Nvidia ID d
Thanks in Advance
Eli

update broke pulseaudio
by Neal Becker
Don't know if it's kde related. This morning a large update, including
kernel. Now kde tells me:
"The audio playback device doesn't work, falling back to internal..."
A look at system settings/multimedia tells me that it wants to remove
pulseaudio.
My log says:

Problem Signing-in in Yahoo using Kopete
by Mark Par
Hi,
I can't find anything about this on the Internet so I'm asking the
list. I can't connect to Yahoo! using kopete. It tells me that my
password is wrong. I double checked my saved password in KDE Wallet
and I am sure that the password is correct.
I already tried updating packages from rawhide but the problem
persists. If someone could point me in the right direction on how to
fix this I'd really appreciate it.
BTW, if this helps, I have no trouble signing in on epiphany.

kwin/plasma slide-in effect
by Robert Szalai
Hi All,
I've observed that when some popups and most notably the kickoff menu
appear on screen it does try to slide in. The problem is that it looks
like a landslide, the background under the menu also slides and makes
a very distracting effect. It is also very non-smooth.
Does anybody know whether there is a bug report about it, or any more
information so that I can try to fix it? (I don't want to start from
scratch.) Could it be a graphics driver bug? What I don't really
understand that how can desktop effect be much slower with KDE than
with gnome on the exact same hardware? Can somebody point me to the
right direction to figure this out?
Hardware is radeon rv730 (HD4670) on F13 fully updated using the mesa
7.8 drivers.
Thanks,
Robert

nfs mount problem
by Anne Wilson
I mount a data directory on my server in fstab, using
192.168.0.40:/Data1 /mnt/server_Data1 nfs nosuid,exec,rw,bg,soft,intr 0 0
I then display it in a folderview, and of course it's accessible in dolphin.
I've been used to quickly opening files from the folderview, and editing them.
However, on this F13 laptop I can't do that (nor from Dolphin). It offers me
read-only, saying I'm an unknown user. The same files can be edited on the
old laptop.
What am I missing?

mplayer plugin for Firefox
by Orion Poplawski
I've been using gecko-mediaplayer on our systems here for a firefox
media plugin and would like to find something a little more KDEish. Any
ideas? Something similar for kmplayer? Should I get away from mplayer
these days?
Thanks!
