nntp (aka, usenet) client in kde?
by Gene Smith
I currently use t-bird with an nntp account pointing to gmane to read
this list and sereral others. Does kde have an nntp client program of
any sort? I don't see it as a possible new account type in kmail. Also,
search with kpackagekit yields nothing with "usenet" or "nntp" that is
kde specific.

time to orphan/retire unmaintained uncommon kde4 language bindings?
by Rex Dieter
Looking over some broken deps reports, I came across some old packages:
kdebindings
smokeqt
smokekde
qyoto (csharp/mono)
kimono (csharp/mono)
ruby-qt
ruby-korundum
perl-Qt
Of these, the only one that's not a pure leaf package is perl-Qt (debconf-
kde depends on it).
any comment or objection to considering orphaning most (all minus
smokeqt/perl-Qt) or all of these ?

Emacs key binding in KDE Plasma 5?
by Sherman Grunewagen
Just moved from Fedora 21 to F25. Under F21 I had a file ~/.gtkrc-2.0 which contained
gtk-key-theme-name = "Emacs"
This enabled basic Emacs cursor motion keyboard commands in text input boxes throughout KDE,
Firefox, &c. (Outside of input boxes, KDE shortcuts ruled.)
How can I get this same behaviour for Plasma 5 w/in F25? From reading around, I've created
~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
and inserted
[Settings]
gtk-key-theme-name = Emacs
in this empty file. This has given the desired result in Firefox and Thunderbird,
but not w/in arbitrary text boxes in KDE (e.g. Alt-F2). The ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file is still
intact, by the way. It seems to have no effect. Any ideas?

SDDM Themes not working
by Gerald B. Cox
I find that I now cannot select themes - and I'm getting either a solid
white or blue background when SDDM starts.
When I tried to test, this is what I received:
sddm-greeter --theme /usr/share/sddm/themes/01-fedora-breeze
[11:43:09.032] (II) GREETER: High-DPI autoscaling not Enabled
[11:43:09.108] (EE) GREETER: Socket error: "QLocalSocket::connectToServer:
Invalid name"
[11:43:09.109] (EE) GREETER: Cannot connect to the daemon - is it running?
[11:43:09.317] (II) GREETER: Loading
file:///usr/share/sddm/themes/01-fedora-breeze/Main.qml...
[11:43:09.317] (WW) GREETER:
file:///usr/share/sddm/themes/01-fedora-breeze/Main.qml: No such file or
directory
[11:43:09.317] (WW) GREETER:
file:///usr/share/sddm/themes/01-fedora-breeze/Main.qml: No such file or
directory
[11:43:09.317] (WW) GREETER: Fallback to embedded theme
Wanted to see if there was a quick fix or if this is known before I create
a bug report.
I didn't see anything on bugzilla, but might have missed it.
Thanks!

How to have plugins in gwenview?
by Frédéric
With F25 and F26, the plugin list in gwenview (16.12.3.2.fc26) is very
small. For example there is no panorama maker.
This is even if kf5-kipi-plugins and kf5-kipi-plugins-libs are
installed (5.6.0.1.fc26).
Why such a regression?

Plasma Wayland session
by Bernie Innocenti
Hello,
the plasma-workspace-wayland package adds a "Plasma (Wayland)" session to gdm (and probably sddm as well), but I couldn't get it to work.
The first problem seems to be that /usr/bin/startplasmacompositor couldn't find qdbus, probably because the qt5 binary is installed as /usr/bin/qdbus-qt5. After fixing this with a temporary symlink hack, the wayland session still fails to start:
Dec 18 17:48:19 giskard /usr/libexec/gdm-wayland-session[14439]: startplasmacompositor: Could not start D-Bus. Can you call qdbus?
Dec 18 17:48:19 giskard /usr/libexec/gdm-wayland-session[14439]: startplasmacompositor: Starting up...
Was anyone able to get to a working Wayland session on Fedora 27? If so, how?

Apper crashes all the time on F27
by Temlakos
Everyone:
What happened to Apper? After I updated to F27 I never could load it
again--it kept crashing.
Recently I did a fresh installation of F27 on new solid-state drives I
recently bought. (My HDD was showing signs of imminent failure.) Apper
didn't come installed, so I installed it. And it crashed every time.
BTW: the Discover app keeps returning "Bad GPG signature file found"
errors whenever I try to install anything.
DNFDragora keeps returning some kind of Dbus error every time I try to
install or upgrade something. The dnf command still works in Konsole; I
simply passed "distro-sync" to get the latest version of the kernel, for
example.
I'm familiar with Apper, and it used to work. But now it won't load, no
matter what.

f26 dnfdragora: selecting repos does not work
by John Pilkington
I like to use a graphical packager manager to get easy repo management -
either immediate or sticky. In f25 and f26 yumex-dnf lets me examine
things as non-root and then asks for permission before making changes.
I understand that the current recommendation in f26 is dnfdragora.
As non-root, the dnfdragora gui allows me to select or deselect repos -
and the one I particularly want to control is rpmfusion updates - but
this seems to have no effect on the packages found. Am I supposed to
have 'kdesu dnfdragora' in the launcher?
I have kannolo-root-unlocker installed.
TIA,

f26 NAS
by John Pilkington
Hi: I'm trying to get to grips with a Seagate-D2 2x2TB NAS bought for
around the cost of the drives. It auto-updated itself, but for some
time I couldn't write to it. Eventually I discovered, by analogy with
OS-X, that
smb://192.168.1.67 in a file manager address bar, as non-root,
appeared to be all that was needed. It will serve audio or video files
via DLNA to my tv and offers other facilities that I haven't yet explored.
But that was on my SL7.4 (el7 clone) box, with konquerer.
If I do the same in f26, with either konqueror or Dolphin, response is
very slow and is read-only. Krusader, which I hadn't used before,
appears to work quite well, but I don't see a bookmark facility.
Any comments?
Thanks,
John P
