Java stopped working in Konqueror
by Patrick O'Callaghan
I don't use Java much (basically just for the New York Times Acrostic
puzzle every two week) but it seems to have stopped working. It
definitely did work 2 weeks ago, and I'm not aware of changing anything
in either Java or the configuration of Konq. In fact the config looks
fine, the Java binary exists, Java is enabled on all pages, I cleaned
the Konq cache and reloaded, and nothing works. Not even the Java test
page at http://java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
kdebase-4.4.2-1.fc12.x86_64, F12 fully updated
"Path to Java executable": java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-37.b17.fc12.x86_64
Opening the same page in Firefox works. FF uses the same Java rpm, but
with the
plugin /usr/lib/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0.x86_64/jre/lib/amd64/IcedTeaPlugin.so

konqueror and gmail
by Charles Zeitler
Do what thou wilt
shall be the whole of the Law.
when i try to edit the input box on gmail
("compose" or "reply") in standard view,
using view mode KHTML, konqueror
freezes up for a few seconds, then crashes.
switching to "basic HTML" avoids this.
Webkit can't seem to load gmail here.
does anybody else have these problems?

phonon-4.4.1 in kde-testing
by Rex Dieter
Just a heads-up, and a possible warning.
phonon-4.4.1 was recently released, and I've built it and put it into
kde-testing repos.
Testing myself on f13 using phonon-backend-xine results in no audio.
-gstreamer backend seems fine.
I commented such on freenode irc in #phonon already. If anyone can
confirm this badness, I'll pull the builds out of -testing

who broke matplotlib?
by Neal Becker
Any clues? My program (read_data.py) is using matplotlib
to do plot(); show().
When the plot appears, and I hit the 'save' button, a dialog window _starts_
to appear (it's partially transparant and rather screwed up), and I get
this:
python read_data.py
(9217) KSycocaPrivate::openDatabase: Trying to open ksycoca from
"/var/tmp/kdecache-nbecker/ksycoca4"

There was no earlier version in my yum log. I've searched koji, and there's
only one F13 version. The log definitely shows it installed today, so what
was used for the same job before is anybody's guess. In the morning I'll
check the install DVD - see if it's there. Maybe it used an F12 one before
today.
I'll leave the laptop on overnight, and try again in the morning.

New xorg update gives horrible display
by Anne Wilson
I presume it's the new Intel-xorg driver that's causing it, but the display is
truly horrible now. I also checked whether compositing is possible - it still
isn't.
