Hi list,
At some point over the summer my LibreOffice has stopped being able to export to PDF.
I get at document, but with no text like the attached, which is a text document with a table.
I tried to downgrade to the previous version but with no luck.
What could be the reason for this behaviour?

Looking at the top row of 4 boxes. Are they supposed to read.

It would seem that the text color is the same as the background color.

That's correct. It seem as if the text is there, but not visible.

So, could you then change the text color to something else and then export to see if it makes a difference? I assume the document is originally a Writer document? The format? odt, docx?

Yes the document is originally one of my own creations. A schedule for my engineering students project work.
I've tried to change the font colour with no success.

Could you create a new user on the machine and see if the new user has the same difficulty?

I've tried to create a new user and copy the document to that user. Still the same problem, but I discovered that with another document I could produce readable PDF's.
Kinda strange I think. But probably something in the document it self. I also tried copy all text and tables (Ctrl+A) to a new document, but it also could not export to PDF.
BTW printing to PDF gives the same unusable document.

Is the original document available for others to test?

For sure. Nothing secret in there.
A rather strange thing is that this particular document exports fine on another laptop also running Fedora 32 KDE.

It fails to export correctly on my F32/KDE system.
LibreOffice Version: 6.4.5.2
But, it exports OK on an F31/KDE system.
LibreOffice Version: 6.3.6.2
The resulting pdf file from F31 displays correctly on the F32 system.

Ed, could you compare the Cantarell package versions also? Thanks.

It seems that Inkscape *is able* to produce a readable PDF file using the Cantarell font. So, it may be a LibreOffice problem, after all.

Thanks.

I've experienced the same thing on Fedora Workstation (GNOME). I tried exporting my resume to PDF (has links) and it came out empty, there were blue hyperlinks but no text. I don't have this issue anymore but it'd be interesting to know what causes this behaviour.
My workaround at the time was to use the Flatpak version of LibreOffice. I'm guessing it happened to me because I installed KDE Plasma (but then removed it) and it might've pulled a dependency which affects LibreOffice's ability to export PDFs. This is just my hypothesis.
All the best, Berk

Could it be a missing font issue?
Looking at the document, I am seeing test like Resources, MediaBox, Kids, Count using strings.
In the past, I have had to slowly strip out items from a document I have had problems with to find out what was causing the problem. I found that it was usually some manually added formatting.
As the list says, it might be something within the document and it looks system wide.

I have no idea.
Its my lecture plan that I adjust year after year to fit to the next semester.

Strange thing, though, is that this document works fine on another laptop.
Where I originally thought that it was the document, I now slowly turn to the installation, but cannot pinpoint one place to look.

Hello Klaus,
I am having a similar issue here. Realized that the font you are using is "Cantarell" and although I have the *abattys-cantarell-fonts* package installed and I can choose the Cantarell font in LibreOffice, the pdf I am getting is without any letters as you are describing. However, the text is there and can be copied out using CTRL-C and CTRL-V. See *pokus1 ....* When I changed the document font to Liberation and tried again, I got a normally looking PDF, see *Laeseplan*
This must be a font issue, maybe the Cantarell package has some problems, you can report it as a bug. For the time's being, use a different font as a workaround and you should be fine.

FWIW, I can confirm that changing the font of the document to Utopia results in a properly exported PDF.

I just tried to change to the Carlito font (the one next to Cantarell) and it works like a charm now.

It seems to be a known issue already at Libre Office: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130149 If you have something to add, please put it into the above discussion.
