Hello Everyone I apologize if this has already been covered. If it has, I haven't seen it. My issue is that I rebooted my Fedora 12 system recently. Nepomuk started up just like it is supposed to. Unfortunately, the Nepomuk status window said that something like 6,000 to 7,000 files had been indexed. I checked my music collection, and sure enough, the mp3's that I checked were not showing metadata in the expected location in Dolphin. So, it looks like for some reason, Nepomuk started re-indexing my files. That was the bad part. This is a kind of odd part: before I had over 25,000 files indexed, and the size of my Nepomuk Store was 3.2 GiB. So, I rebooted, Nepomuk started re-indexing my files, BUT the Store size was still 3.2 GiB. So I "assume" that my database had not been destroyed, but Nepomuk just started re-indexing my files for some reason... Also, like I said earlier, the metadata that had been displayed in Dolphin before I rebooted was gone after I booted back up. But, my Store size was still the same...
Anyway, has anyone else had this issue? I will attempt to look for bug reports to attach my comments to. If I don't find any, please let me know the exact component to file this particular issue under.

Hi, I just rebooted F12 and Nepomuk/Strigi is re-indexing taking more than 30 minutes, consuming a lot of cpu-power. (208 MB Storage; ~4000 files in index) No errors, but slow.

Hello Again, I rebooted last night, and this morning I logged back in again. The Nepomuk Store was still 3.2 GiB, but only approximately 417 files had been indexed! I will glad do what I can to figure out what is causing this issue. If I don't here from anyone in a few days or so, I will just find out where this 3.2 GiB store is located, delete it, and disable Nepmuk. That would be unfortunate, since for the brief time that it was actually working for me, it looked really interesting and useful.

Hello Everyone, I have had recent, VERY temporary success with Nepomuk/Strigi. I have seen up to several hours of the re-scanning of my files. I have even seen actual metadata on those files in Dolphin. But, all that has stopped now, and Nepomuk/Strigi are no longer functional on my system. I have no idea what made everything work temporarily, but I do know that Nepomuk/Strigi is broken again on my system.
Like I said in my previous message, I am interested in making this work. So if anyone could please be of assistance to me on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

A few minutes later it stopped :( The metadata that I had seen a few minutes ago was still there. So, that's good at least. OK. Now this is getting silly. A few Minutes after my initial success this morning with Nepomuk, I added a new directory of music to what Nepomuk is scanning. It successfully began scanning that directory. Unfortunately, Nepomuk must have started over Completely from the beginning, because the files that Had been successfully scanned a mere few minutes ago, now the metadata is gone/not viewable in dolphin.
So, for the benefit of anyone else that may having similar Nepomuk instability, or may have it in the future, I eagerly await your input on this, so that the fix for this particular Nepomuk madness will be publicly known :)

BUT, then I logged out and logged back in. I did NOT reboot. I then discovered that all of my metadata was gone. It was there before I logged out...
Anyway, I'll keep you posted.

Hi Steven,
After login I see in .xsession-errors a lot of of the following messages:
[/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub] removeAllStatements query: "clear graph nepomuk:/ctx/..."
and in Dolpin all tags are gone. I don't know why this is happening.
I also see an error: "/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub(3118)" Error in thread 140586742376512 : "Parsing failed (3)": "syntax error at '"'" (line: 412, column: -1)
I've no idea if these messages/error are relevant. Do you have this in .xsession-errrors?

Hello Martin, Well, at the present moment I only have one of those in my .xsession- errrors. But, I have a multitude of these: [/usr/bin/nepomukservicestub] removeAllStatements query: "clear graph nepomuk:/ctx/feafe310-55fa-4d64-9f94-1711fb083e6f"
I just did "grep removeAllStatements .xsession-errors" and sent the output to a file. The resulting file showed 4,910 occurances of "clear graph nepomuk:/ctx/feafe310-55fa-4d64-9f94-1711fb083e6f" !!!
The most recent thing Nepomuk has been doing is just hanging in one directory. Not always in the same one, and not always on files of the same type, but just hanging in one spot...
I Googled for "removeAllStatements query: "clear graph <nepomuk:" and I found the following: http://www.mail-archive.com/debian-kde@lists.debian.org/msg30392.html
No one on the Debian list has responded to this persons message since it was sent on March 7th.

Hi Steven,
Just a last response on this. I have F13 running in VirtualBox. Enabling Strigi caused abrt to kick in. The report on this can be found at [1].

btw. I also disabled Strigi for now on F12, but on F14 it's running very smooth.

Nepomuk Store was still 3.2 GiB, but only approximately 417 files had been indexed!
Hello Everyone, I just came home from work, and I checked the directories that Nepomuk was indexing when I had left for work this morning. Almost everything seemed to have been scanned, and the metaday displayed as desired in Dolphin.
BUT, then I logged out and logged back in. I did NOT reboot. I then discovered that all of my metadata was gone. It was there before I logged out...
Anyway, I'll keep you posted.
Hi,
FYI: After a lot of updates yesterday and today - don't which packages did it, qt-*, soprano, akonadi, kdelibs ...? - form me, Nepomuk/Strigi is working again in F13. :-)

Hello Martin, When Fedora 13 is actually release on May 18th I will certainly be giving it a try: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Releases/13/Schedule
As far as for Fedora 12, the last QT update was on March 17th. But for some reason I feel like giving Nepomuk a try again anyway...
