by Heiko Adams
Hi,
will Feodra 17 or even the Xfce 4.10 siderepo get updated packages for
midori 0.4.7?

Default apps in live-cd.
by Sergio Cipolla
I noticed that the Xfce spin has Abiword set to open text/plain.
The default is the first option in mimeinfo.cache. In this case:
text/plain=fedora-abiword.desktop;fedora-geany.desktop;fedora-leafpad.desktop;
So I was thinking that maybe that's the order they are installed
(maybe in the kickstart file).
If so, maybe we should have a simpler one first (leafpad or geany) and
leave Abiword to the end so it only opens those word documents.

lightdm issue in live-cd
by Sergio Cipolla
Hello.
Probably because 'Live System User' has no password, lightdm is broken
for keyboard navigation in the live-cd.
If it had a password, when choosing the user the focus would jump to the
password field and then one could hit enter or navigate to the other
buttons. The way it is now hitting 'enter' just expands the user options
and there's no way to change focus to the 'login' button.
Anyway, this seems a limitation of the gtk greeter. Is it planned to
skip the DM screen altogether like in previous versions that used gdm?

oversize on f18 again. ;)
by Kevin Fenzi
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=853590
Some options:
- nuke icedtea-web (this saves 100MB or so, but means people won't be
able to test java in the live instance).
- seahorse - 7mb
- Longer term: split perl deps out of exo and see if we can remove
perl? lm_sensors also needs perl, so we would have to drop
xfce4-sensors-plugin, but I think it's worth it. That could save us a
ton of room down the road. This dep is due exo-compose-mail-1 helper
being a perl script.
- drop one of firefox or midori. ;)
- We really only need a bit of room at this point, so other smaller
suggestions?

'Disks' in Xfce spin?
by Sergio Cipolla
What do you think of adding gnome-disk-utility to the Xfce spin?
It's not that big and maybe something could be removed to make room for it?
Lately I've been installing it everytime I boot the live-cd as it's
pretty easy to activate my encrypted swap with it (if it was by the
command-line, I think I would have to use some cryptsetup command plus
some other unknown command to do that ;-) ).
I guess it's very useful for other live-cd uses too.
On a related note, usermode-gtk provides usermount ('Disk Management'
in 'System' menu) which AFAIK is useless in default Xfce.
Its destop file has 'NotShowIn=GNOME;KDE;'
May I open a bug report for it to add 'NotShowIn=GNOME;KDE;XFCE;LXDE;' ?
(LXDE also doesn't need it because of pcmanfm, right?)

Is xfce4-mixer detecting the default audio card (pulseaudio) in F18?
by Sergio Cipolla
Hi.
xfce4-mixer 4.10 wasn't giving me a choice to use the 'default' card
(pulseaudio). It used to in F17.
I even downgraded to v. 4.8 but it just shows the alsa card.
Of course even alsamixer shows the default pulseaudio card and pnmixer too.
I don't understand about this but it seems xfce4-mixer is a gstreamer
thing and maybe isn't supposed to work like alsamixer.
I have just the basics for gstreamer as I use vlc/deadbeef which don't
need it so it's here mostly because of webkitgtk, qt-config etc., these
unrelated stuff.
$ yum list installed *gstreamer*
gstreamer.i686 0.10.36-2.fc18 @fedora
gstreamer-plugins-base.i686 0.10.36-3.fc18 @fedora
gstreamer-tools.i686 0.10.36-2.fc18 @fedora
gstreamer1.i686 1.0.2-1.fc18
@updates-testing
gstreamer1-plugins-base.i686 1.0.2-1.fc18
@updates-testing
It still looks like there's some bug somewhere as xfce4-mixer should
detect the default card.
Thoughts?

Question about lightdm and display-manager.service
by Sergio Cipolla
Hi.
I'm using F18 upgraded from f17 with yum.
IIRC, F17 had /usr/lib/systemd/system/graphical.target.wants/<something>
to start the display manager (someone using it could clear that up).
After the upgrade that directory is empty. I had to create a symlink
from /usr/lib/systemd/system/lightdm.service to
/usr/lib/systemd/system/display-manager.service otherwise lightdm
couldn't be started, of course.
Now, the issue is that that's an upgrade bug for systemd or for lightdm.
I would like to open a bug report for it so could someone using F17 post
exactly how graphical.target is linked (general sense, not symlink) to
lightdm.service in F17?

Xfce menu.
by Sergio Cipolla
Hi.
systemd-ui replaced systemd-gtk (I think).
For it (systemadm) to nest in the proper place in Xfce menu its desktop
file should have
Categories=System;Settings;
and now it has only 'System'.
I would open a bug report but IDK if this messes with other DEs in
Fedora or if it's a standard for us.
