knetworkmanager and plasmoid
by Eli Wapniarski
Hi
I'm having a problem with knetworkmanager... the regular applet and the
plasmoid.
I cannot seem to find a way to connect to vpn using the applet and currently am
forced to log out of kde and go to gnome when I need to access the vpn
connection.
Does anyone know if I need to configure something? Is there a previous bug
report?
Thanks
Eli

Weather Forecast widget never updates.
by linux guy
Hi people.
I'm running KDE 4.5.1 from kde-tesing on a fully up to date F13
installation.
I have several Weather Forecast widgets in my primary panel. I have
them set to update every 30 minutes. However, they never update. The
only time they update is when I log out and log back into a KDE session.
Its been this way since the dawn of the Weather Forecaster application.
Anyone else have this problem ? Do I have to enable a special port or
something ?
Networking in general seems to be very stable on my machine. I have no
other issues.
Thanks

Releasing maintainership of packages
by Ben Boeckel
Hi,
Since I've been out of the KDE scene for a while and haven't run it
myself either, I'm taking myself off of the packages for those that I am
a co-maintainer for (thanks to Jens Petersen for scripting it so I
wasn't making even more mails with lots of checkbox clicking). For those
that I am the primary maintainer for, I offer maintainership here first.
Here are the packages I own:
bilbo (should probably just be orphaned across the board
since kdepim has it now)
qca2 (comaintainers CC'd)
krazy2
krename
kdevplatform (comaintainers CC'd)
kde-plasma-networkmanagement
I learned lots of packaging tips and pitfalls to avoid from my work with
the SIG and am grateful for it, but I've been using XMonad and other
things of late and it doesn't appear as though I'll be returning to KDE
as a user. It's great technology, I love it, and I recommend it to those
who know their way around Linux or are looking into programming an
application (KDE's libraries are still among the nicest I've seen
around, and certainly top for GUI applications). Unfortunately, getting
things to work as I've gotten my machines to run is probably still
outside its scope.
I'll probably still pop in the IRC now and then to help friends if they
need it and I can't poke it into working. Hope to meet up with those of
you who are going to be at FUDCon Tempe and at future conferences
(hopefully I'll make it over to Europe one of these days).

kmail rules, database, and filters gone haywire
by Claude Jones
I also let the recent kdepim update through and it has caused a lot of
problems, some of which I don't see addressed in the various posts and
replies here. The two biggest issues are these:
Kmail keeps detecting mail on my ISP pop servers as new mail and
re-downloading it so I end up with up to four copies of each message -
then, it seems to figure something out and stops after 4 (I retrieve
mail from multiple computers and only one is set to actually delete mail
from the mail server and then only after 7 days - this allows various
machines I work from to retrieve messages, even if one is turned off for
a few days - this has worked well for years for me, but this is why it's
also able to retrieve the same message multiple times)
My Kmail filters work, but not consistently - usually upon downloading a
batch of messages for the second time, it leaves everything in the inbox
(if I highlight them all and use Ctl+j it applies the filters and the
messages all get sorted in to their respective folders)
I did revert Kdepim to ver kdepim-4.4.6-2.fc13.x86_64
Is this right, and should akonadi and kdepimlibs be at ver
akonadi-1.4.0-0.2.fc13.x86_64 and
kdepimlibs-akonadi-4.5.1-0.1.fc13.x86_64 ?
I've some issues in the past, usually with new installs, where the
database of downloaded messages would seem to get confused and Kmail
would start downloading messages over and over, but this would generally
clear up after a few days. Can anyone suggest a way to fix this?

Installing KDE on fedora 13
by Ken McFarlane
I'm a long-time computer user but i've failed to switch to KDE on my
fresh fedora install. Is the help on this?
I installed standard fedora 13 (gnome) and now want to use KDE.
I followed the instructions in the
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/KDE#Using_KDE page down to the
'Graphical Interface" section. Whether I use the switchdesktop command
from the command line or use the system-switch-displaymanager kdm as
root, I still get the gnome desktop (with a lot of entries in the
menu, some with duplicates, like 'System monitor').
I do get a message saying I have to restart the X system. (Of course,
I'm supposed to know what that means.) Deciding that restarting fedora
will surely restart the X system, I do that, looking forward to
choosing a KDE session during login. After all, you say:
"During the default login process, you can use the "Session" menu to
choose a KDE login instead of a GNOME login. You will be asked if you
wish to make KDE your default desktop."
There is no "Session" menu during the login process, I just go
straight to the gnome desktop, menus cluttered with KDE stuff.
Is there a way of doing this (switching between desktops) that works
with fedora 13 (maybe a KDE person can do a fresh install with gnome
and step through the instructions to see if they work).

Akonadi database clean up?
by Martin Airs
Good day all,
I thought I'd give kmail2 a go, I didn't use the first kmail so there was no
migration to do.
then I thought "I wonder if I can import all my thunderbird mail" which of
course you can.
anyway when importing all the thunderbird mail it must have put all that email
into the database, I then decided to delete the old thunderbird mail folder
and just set up kmail2 from scratch.
Now tho, when I Alt+F2 to open the krunner, when I type in pretty much
anything, it finds an old email.
however I don't want to now delete the whole database and start again, because
I am now using it properly and all my current mail is being fetched into it by
the akonadi pop3 service.
can I synchronise the database with just what's currently in my kmail folders
and drop the rest??
Thanks in advance
Martin

Plasmoid install fails
by Colin J Thomson
Hi,
Anyone else seeing this:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=249980
I have tried the "workaround" of manually unpacking and running plasmapkg -i
on the directory and that seems OK on a few random plasmoids tested here.

Re: A question about sounds from Firefox while reading email
by George R Goffe
Kevin,
Thanks for your information.
It had occurred to me that this problem might be a KDE problem regardless of platform or "surrounding" distribution.
Yes? No?
Regards,
George...

Beware of KDEPIM 4.4.93 in kde-unstable
by Radek Novacek
Hello,
I have just a small warning for users of kde-redhat repo.
If you installed kde 4.5.0 (or 4.5.1) from kde-unstable and let this
repository enabled, the new kdepim (4.4.93) will arrive to you as an update.
It is NOT stable release and MAY corrupt your PIM data (e-mails etc.).
You should be aware that this can happened when you're using _unstable_ repo,
but I think many people enabled unstable repo just for kde 4.5.* (like me) and
don't want to risk to lost their PIM data (like me).
