kde 4.6 notif sound distortion
by Neal Becker
One thing I'm noticing is that since update to 4.6, notification sounds
seem a bit distorted. Never happened before.

Need for a Linux onscreen keyboard
by Kyle
Hello,
The options for an onscreen keyboard for Fedora and Linux are
limited. The main onscreen keyboards are kvkbd, xvkbd and GOK. Each
have their pros and cons. Kvkbd has a nice GUI but no word completion
feature. Xvkbd has an archaic GUI and word completion feature. GOK does
not seem to work on Fedora. The main window starts (along with
warnings) but activating the keyboard does not.
I recently tried out Windows 7 onscreen keyboard and it is very
functional. What I am saying is why can't Linux have a fully functional
onscreen keyboard? The accessability tools are limited and having an
onscreen keyboard that is similar to Windows 7's in features and design
would be beneficial. I have difficulty typing (I have muscular
dystrophy) so I use an onscreen keyboard.
I have been a Linux user for 12+ years. I would code an onscreen
keyboard myself but I am not a programmer. I suck at it. I want to
help get this project started. Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kyle

Wine issue with KDE 4.6.
by linux guy
It appears that wine has an issue with KDE-4.6 or at least the Clear
View flight simulator running on wine does.
If one opens a window on top of an existing window in wine, the top
window doesn't redraw at all. It blends in perfectly with the
background window. None of the objects on the top window appear.
If you know what the (invisible) elements on the top window are, you can
tab and arrow around and they work. You just can't see them.

Locking Widgets makes them move
by Jim Dean
I installed 4.6.0 in F14 from kde-testing and when I lock widgets they move.
So far every thing is great except for the problem in the subject.
To give more details I use Quick Launcher and had it near the top of the
screen. Previously if I moved it there and locked the widgets it would stay.
With 4.6 after locking it moves down. It appears to make room for the bar
holding the resize, options etc. icons.
Just reporting it as Rex asked on his blog but also hoping someone has a
suggestion.

Dependency issues with KDE-4.6 update.
by linux guy
As per Rex's message this morning, I would like to test kde-4.6 now that
it has moved into kde-testing.
I enabled kde-testing and ran yum update, whereupon I came upon this:

kde-testing
I had to do a rpm -e --nodeps sip and then a yum install sip to get
around this.
The upgrade then ran without issue.

KDE 4.6... my desktop went ugly !
by linux guy
I upgraded to KDE-4.6 via kde-testing. It worked.
However, my desktop went ugly !
What is with the white clouds around the text on a desktop icon ? How
do I get rid of it.
My task bar has really weird shading that makes the text hard to read.
It used to be solid black. How do I get that back ?
The clock is ugly too... time to dig in and look at a few different
schemes.

NOTICE: Our f14 kde-4.6.x builds currently in kde-unstable will be moved
over to kde-testing soon for wider testing.
Be aware that these will not include any of the kdepim-4.6beta builds,
these will stay in -unstable.
Enjoy.

by Martin (KDE)
Hallo
On my laptop I can enable different sorts of powersaving features,
includes of suspend to ram/disk in the kde-settings if I am logged on.
But how can I enable suspend if noone is logged on, if kdm shows the
login screen?

KDE 4.6 beta2 power management
by Martin Airs
Good day all,
Since updating to 4.5.85 my monitor goes off after 10 minutes of inactivity,
I've tried turning off the monitor power management in powerdevil and it still
goes of after 10 minutes, I even tried setting the timeout to 1 minute but the
monitor still goes off after 10 minutes.
It seems something else is turning off the monitor, and powerdevil is having no
effect.
Has anyone else had this, and were can I start looking to see what is actualy
doing it and how to turn it to never!, I would like it to honour the
powerdevil profile as it allways has done in the past.
thank you
Martin
