Just an update on this..

I have been testing F27 with the latest kde packages, frameworks 5.38, 
applications 17.08.x (which had a shed load of fixes) especially in PIM and 
the issue has gone now.
Maybe also related to QT as I see F27 runs qt-5.9.x now.

Slightly Off Topic,
I'm also testing Martins Plasma-5.10.95 (5.11 beta) which also is working 
extremely well for me.

Thanks to everyone involved in providing the latest kde software group for 
Fedora.
