Updating on the netbook, once again. As before, Korganizer would open as a stand-alone, but crashed Kontact. Removing korganizerrc cured the problem.

Logged in afresh this morning, started reading mail, changed to calendar, and kontact crashed. Had to remove korganizerrc again.

KOrganizer seems very unstable within kontact. Although I accessed it once when first opening kontact, reading more mail then accessing it again caused kontact to crash. I've had to resort to running korganizer separately.

I've just installed qt-4.6.0-0.2.beta1.fc11 on my main laptop - I've been putting it off. Kontact will not start at all. I tried renaming the kontactrc, but it made no difference. KMail, KAddressbook, KOrganizer and Akregator all work as stand-alone. Any ideas?

Yes, it starts on my netbook, but I've no idea where to start looking for the problem on this laptop.

Different KDE version installed? Maybe a different arch? Not sure if the latter can be a problem here.

Theoretically both are running 4.3.2, with all fedora-kde and kde-unstable repos. Both are ix86. Theoretically they are the same, but in practice I keep seeing some differences. Maybe hardware-influenced? I don't know.

It's getting late, and I still have a bit to do. I'll try that tomorrow.

If you need to revert qt back to 4.5.x, I can help walk you through it.

Thanks, Rex. It may not be necessary - Cristoph was quite correct in that it was a slightly different manifestation of the korganizerrc problem.
The new korganizerrc is minimalist - 14 lines, while the old one had 140 lines. Would it be any help to let you see the two, to kompare them? I can see the differences, but don't know the significance in this context.

Hi, Christoph
You are right - it's a different manifestation of the same problem on the netbook. There kontact would open, but crashed if I tried to open the calendar. Here kontact wouldn't open at all. In both cases renaming korganizerrc cured it.
I've kompared korganizerrc and korganizerrc.old - the first is 14 lines long, and the old one is 140 lines long, so the new one is definitely minimalist. However, I don't know enough to recognise what part of the old one is causing the problem.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, once again ;-)

Hi Anne,
it's hard to say what is causing the break. I removed my korganizerrc this morning cause ontact wasn't starting. Then I made all the swtiches I did yesterday, to get the corrupted one back again, I restarted kontact and is was working. I will keep trying to find the corrupted line, but this may take some time.

Just made some triaging, it seems to be, this time, i the line:
[General] ... Current View=Month ...
which made things break, removing it makes kontact start.
Anne can you reproduce this?

I doubt if it's coincidence that my preferred view is month - so you could well be right. This is what happened with my experiments.
I removed korganizerrc and restarted kontact. No problem. I changed to Calendar and set it to Month view. Then closed kontact. Restarted kontact - except that it didn't start. Opened korganizerrc in kwrite, changed Month to Week. Kontact didn't start. Removed korganizerrc. Kontact didn't start. KOrganizer wouldn't start as stand-alone either.
I started closing windows with a view to restarting the desktop, but tried Kontact once more, just before doing the restart - Kontact started. I'm assuming that korganizer was using a cached rc at the time that it wouldn't start.
Interestingly, it started in Week mode. On checking the rc I find that there is no line setting the mode.

Just a further note on this. On this laptop, kontact wouldn't start again this morning. CurrentView was set to Agenda. I removed the line, and kontact started. It looks as though it's not the month-view as such, that's the problem.
