When I start kcalc in GNOME Ican see that 2 toggles the highliting between
2 and SHIFT. Any clue?
BTW: it is a german localized system
Looks like a keymap problem then... try to reproduce it with the US keyboard
(switch either using the KDE kxkb applet or "setxkbmap us")
