I am trying to install f12-snap 1 and I get a message stating
"could not start ksmserver" and then the CD just hangs, so I am
unable to get logged in to run the install program. Also, when I
click "ok", I am returned to kdm and the username is liveuser,
but the password field is blank and there is no indication of
what the password is (leaving blank, using liveuser don't work).
How can I install this?

New to KDE4? - get help from
http://userbase.kde.org
You hit a site effect of the 'prelink' bug [1]. The KDE Live CD 'misses' -
as a
workaround - the prelink package because it causes a segmentation fault in
kdeinit4. Without prelinking klaucher crashes. Again as a workaround you can:
1. boot into text mode (hit at the start screen ESC and add 3 to the kernel
parameter list)
2. log in as root
3. Install prelink
4. run prelink -f /usr/bin/kdeinit4
5. log in as liveuser (hope it will not ask for a password :-))
6. start X
... and you're in
Hope this works.

N.B. a 'workaround' will be coming so that the prelink package can be brought
back in. But the real solution is in the hands of the glibc/prelink guys.
