Do you mean under System Settings -> Regional & Language ->
Country/Region & Language -> Times and Dates ?
If so you can actually type in MM/DD/YY in Short date format ? Not sure
if it actually works or not.
Guess I ought to file a Bugzilla request, but I thought I'd mention it here
in case this is an easy fix. :-)
