Oh.. thanks for the info. I've always thought of Klipper as a 
not-so-useful utility (I never used it's 'advanced' features). But now I 
see how pasting worked without issues with KDE3-  I always had Klipper 
running.
Now, once I have klipper running, pasting works fine.
