The line
gtk-font-name="Sans Serif 12" existed. I changed it to
Konsole output

gtk-font-name="Sans Serif 12
gtk-font-name="Sans Serif 14" as well as your suggestion and it had no
apparent effect even after restarting. The size of the fonts in the UI did not change.
Is xsettings-kde installed? if it is, then it could be affecting some
of the settings from .gtkrc-2.0-kde4... I am not sure though.
