The cd images are also meant to be used as the source for live usb versions
(eg. via liveusb-creator). So the size of the images still must fit on a
cd.
Personally I think one version should be enough. And the CD is still the
most common media.
I'm not sure - everyone has x gigs USB flash so it's easier for me to run
liveusb-creator than finding free medium, trying to convince my old burner to
burn it correctly etc...
