I decided that I should also ask on the kde-pim list, where I was pointed to
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=213432.
Apparently it's an unforeseen change of behaviour in Qt. Presumably it will
get fixed, but once you know about it, you can live with it for a while. It's
an annoyance, but not the end of the world.
