+1, though I am still on F12. It's not just bad performance, it's all sorts of
stuff going wrong. I've been living with it for some time now, trying to
disable all non-essential options in hope to improve performance, but to no
avail.
I didn't complain so far because I am waiting for F14 and was hoping problems
would go away. But if it gets even *worse* on F13 and onwards, I'll have to
yell out loud about this.
* The startup time seems long, loading just 3-4 tabs. Same for the shutdown
time, which is even more weird.
* On random occasion the text starts to be typed backwards (ie. it is typed
but the cursor does not move along, so the letters of the word get reversed).
When this happens, restarting kile fixes the problem until it starts again
(cca. every 2-3 hours).
* Text scrolling using arrow keys is a downright pain, page up/down work a bit
better.
* Selecting/deleting text or anything that involves a lot of cursor motion is
slow beyond sanity for a 2.5 GHz machine.
* With a static word wrap set at 80 columns, it gets a tiny bit more
responsive, but this looks ridiculous on a 1680x1050 resolution.
* No other application exhibits any of these issues. Machine works smoothly,
everything appears ok. When scrolling in kile, top shows increased performance
by kile and X. Otherwise nothing relevant.
All .tex files exhibit this, or just particular (assuming largish)
ones?
In my case it appears that the lack of performance tends to be proportional to
the file length, although not crucially. It is quite slow even for small files,
like 200 rows times 80 columns. With larger files it just gets worse.
If the latter, mind sending me 1 or 2 for testing?
I attached two files I am currently working on, where the problems are
fairly obvious, but the mail got stuck waiting for moderator approval and
didn't make it to the list. If you wish, I can send them to you directly for
testing.
Desperately HTH, :-)
Marko
P.S. I see all this on updated F12 64bit, both with and without desktop effects
(compiz, kwin, whatever), on Intel graphics hardware.
