Will test as you say.

It is not the first account that is logged in that takes the sound card. 
  That I am sure.

Also, with the Alsa mixer, I get the same indication as the KDE Volume 
or the Pavcontrol.  I am testing further.

I did make one change to groups and I have reverted it just now.  I 
added the user that takes control of the sound card to the audio group 
as I was trying to get ZynAddSubFX to work and that was one of the 
suggestions.
