Dolphin "cd"s in konsole history are annoying. Split consoles for split views ?
by linux guy
I love the way that Dolphin can now be set up so that it has a console
at the bottom that follows the directories as you browse. I often
browse somewhere and then do command line commands and then do something
with a GUI and then... back and forth. Its an excellent way to work.
Whoever thought of tying Dophin and a console together deserves a medal.
However, I find one part of it to be annoying... whenever you change a
directory in Dolphin, it records a cd command in the console history.
I really like how the console tracks the directory changes that occur in
Dolphin. It saves me a lot of time, not having to issue cds in the
console to keep it in the directory that I am looking at in Dolphin.
However, it might be me, but I don't want to see the Dolphin cds in the
console history. The only commands that I want to see in the console
history are the ones that I enter myself manually. If I want to note
what directory I am working in in the console history, I'll issue a pwd
command.
I think it would be really nice if there was a turn off the logging of
Dolphin cds in the console history. Is there a way to do this ?
Another issue is how there is only one console tied to the Dolphin app
and yet Dolphin can have a split screen with 2 different directory
views. Unfortunately, every time you jump between views another cd gets
issued in the console.
It would be nice if a split view Dolphin session had 2 consoles. It
would be really nice if those sessions shared the same history so that
if you typed a command in one, you could just put the cursor in the
other console, go into the history and repeat the same command in the
other console.
I love open source and Fedora and KDE.
Thanks for listening.

Amarok update path on kde-redhat
by Mary Ellen Foster
I'm running Fedora 11 (preview/rawhide/whatever) on x86_64, with all
kde-redhat repositories enabled -- including the i386 ones because of
multilib issues. I've done all of the other (non-amarok) updates
today, and amarok is still being annoying ...
Right now, I get the following if I attempt to "yum update" (edited to
show the relevant bits):
================================================================================
Package Arch Version Repository Size
================================================================================
Installing:
amarok-utils i586 2.0.96-1.fc11 kde-i386-unstable 148 k
replacing amarok-utilities.x86_64 2.0.90-2.fc11
Installing for dependencies:
[ ... ]
amarok-utilities i586 2.0.90-2.fc11 kde-i386-unstable 142 k
[ ... ]
If I disable the i386 repositories, I don't see any proposed updates,
even after a "yum clean all".
Is this a mirror issue? A multilib issue? What's the deal with
amarok-util[itie]s?
Thanks for any help,
MEF

= Agenda =
* Delta RPMS
* F11 news: leonidas-kde-theme updates
* KDE 4.2.3 update status
* Qt 4.5.1 update status
* KDE 4.2.85 status (F12 Rawhide)
= Summary =
o Delta RPMs:
* kpackagekit in its current version supports delta-rpms provided by yum-
presto.
* So the usual huge KDE updates would benefit from the smaller delta-rpms if
enabled by default.
* The current release decision for Fedora 11 is to not install yum-presto by
default.
* We'll stick with this decision: It's too late in the release cycle to push
it on the KDE live images.
o leonidas-kde-theme update:
* The final version of leonidas-kde-theme was built and tagged today. [1]
* It matches the current leonidas-backgrounds (updated yesterday), adds two
subpackages and re-enables labels.
* The update should be tested by all available people.
o KDE 4.2.3 update status:
* KDE 4.2.3 is already available in updates-testing for F-9, F-10 and F-11.
[2,3,4]
* Extragear packages for KDE 4.2.3 were built and will be submitted for
updates-testing soon.
* An update for the weather dataengine in kdebase-workspace will be backported
from KDE 4.3 if testing goes fine.
o Qt 4.5.1 update status:
* Tracker bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=Qt451
* Qt 4.5.1 is now in updates-testing for F-11 and F-10, F-9 will be added with
the next push. [6,7,8]
* Two regressions in Qt 4.5.0 are fixed by this update (texmaker, jabbim), but
three new regressions appeared (rssnow plasmoid, ksysguard, Amarok 2.0).
* The status of regressions vs. fixes will be evaluated in a week.
* Two patches are worth considering a backport:
- A possible fix for the rendering issues [9]
- A fix for a leak of file descriptors in QTemporaryFile: [10]
o Open discussion:
* strigi-0.6.4-4.fc10 [11] will be pushed to stable although it was reported
to not fix #496620 [12] completely: smb:/// apparently still crashes, but at
least the crash when checking the properties of / was fixed.
* Importing KDE 4.2.85 in F12 was started.

Why I'm using unstable repos
by Andrew Mason
Hi guys,
I saw a post asking for people to let you know why we were using the
unstable repos. I'm not sure why others are using it but for me it was
because there were some features or problems which I found the current
distributions KDE packages which I was hoping ( or were ) fixed in the
newer packages.
Initially it was because the plasma-networkmanager app , kopete and
quassel were available. I don't have alot of ram in some of my
machines so I didn't really want to run KDE 3 apps in kde4 as they
can't take advantage of the libraries that are already loaded.
I also saw it as a way to test kdevelop4.

KAddressbook v.4.1 (KDE 4.2.2) in F-10
by Martin Kho
Hi,
In KAddressbook I've some contacts that have more than one e-mail address.
When I try to select one of these, I get a pop up box asking me to choose an
e-mail address. After clicking the Ok-button the same pop up box reappears.
Does anyone else have seen this? Can I disable this question somewhere?
If I select more than one contact, all those messages are getting annoying.
Thanks,
Martin Kho

Got two Kcrashes today just starting up KDE for the day. I'm sending

crashes myself however.

Is KDE 4.2.3 ready for updates-testing?
by Kevin Kofler
Hi,
can we queue 4.2.3 for testing now? Or should we wait for the extragear
stuff? (Can we get that completed?) Anything else missing?
