Proposal: Fedora G11N Steering Committee

Hi All, I am sure, most of the people working with Fedora I18N, L10N from 5-6 year must be aware regarding Fedora L10N Steering Committee. [1] As far as i know this committee was active around 2009 and very effective. During Fedora G11N activity day discussions, we again felt there is need for some kind of official committee to drive Fedora Globalization activities. Fedora is growing faster with number of different domains and G11N also need to adapt those changes quickly to remain on the track. For this purpose and in line with [1], we were thinking of Fedora Globalization steering committee. I have created initial proposal for it. [2] Its open for feedback, please feel free to share other active members, discuss in your respective language groups. Translation platform - migration plan

Dear translation teams, I just finished a draft of the migration plan. This mostly is about schedule, and a little bit about the steps to get it done. Please ask any question you feel like (in public here or #fedora-i18n or in private). https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/L10N_Move_to_Weblate As Fedora 32 schedule isn't really decided yet, this may move a one or two weeks. What worries me is to make sure we have all upstream project to understand the behavior of the new translation platform (direct connection to git instead of manual push/pull), and to find the best way to handle new processes with them (git branches will be used by Weblate). So far, no alternative proposed to Weblate. If you have a tool and can demonstrate it answer our community needs, remember it really is open for discussion. Have a nice day, Jean-Baptiste

Zanata statistics and what it tells about us

Dear translation teams, our contribution statistics are going lower and lower, and if we don't find the way to discuss our needs, we disappear every day a little bit more and more. Here a the numbers, taken from a database dump provided by Carlos Munoz (thanks to the help of Brian Exelbierd). The latest activity I have is at 2019-06-17 07:32:20. yymm nbUser translated words 2014 12 7003 2015 177 984080 2016 248 1547032 2017 210 668524 2018 156 841206 2019 101 215207 These data shows that when we had active exchanges, meetings and goals, we were growing (remember we had: three events in 2015, two major translation sprint in 2016 and one little translation sprint in early 2017). My goal with the l10n meetings about the migration platform, is not to debate on tool, but to discuss together on what do we need to be efficient. And I'm willing to ask the council for money so we have the feature we need in Weblate. But features are useless if we have no process, no collective rhythm. I need your help, under the form of discussions and exchanges to confirm or contradict my ideas about what we need. Current processes - SWOT

Dear translation team, I did some progress in the wiki pages related to the migration [1]. Changes: * added the long term objective * added the feedback from Benson Muite and Igor /Игорь Горбунов (I'll do tiansworld' one soon) * changed the structure of objectives to better highlight user stories and system requirements I started to describe the current situation regarding the "hosting projects" objective [2]. I think many don't know how we work and this makes difficult to explain what are our issues. I'll do the same for the other two objectives. You're welcome to edit the pages and improve description of current situation on all three objectives.
